My youngest, Madrone Heavenly Halo (call name Halo), took Best of Breed on Saturday, 20 Oct, in Belton, TX beating several Specials in the process.  This was the first time she has won Best of Breed.  I was really pround of her.

She is the first dog I have ever shown and she is completely owner handled and trained.  I am absolutely having a blast with her.  I also do obedience with her and flyball.  She is my second GSP.  My first GSP has her CD and we are working on her CDX.  She also plays flyball with Halo.

Halo looks gorgeous! Congrats on the BB win! Terra and I do flyball. She loves it! We are also training for her CDX. Have you tried agility? It's my favourite.

Gail -

Thanks.

I have tried Agility with both Belle and Halo, and they do love it.  They both have all the obstacles down with the exception of the weave poles and the teeter.  They basically know what they need to do, we just need to build confidence and speed.  Unfortunately, I have limited time to work them and had to drop something.  That was agility mainly because of the location of the school.  It is further away.  Also, I was running into conflicts with the other training classes.  My intent is to get back into agility once I get my CDX on Belle and finish Halo.  I still work them at home as I have the weave poles and my dad built me a regulation teeter.  Also, lots of contact work.  I do agree agility is fun and my girls love it.

Congrats on the win. You have a beauty there. I don't know what the CD and CDX are? What is flyball? Sorry I don't get out much except hunting. LMAO!

CD And CDX are titles in Obedience.  The CD is novice level and consists of heeling on and off leash, a recall, a figure eight heeling on leash, and a long sit (1 minute) and down (3 minute).  The CDX is the next level of obedience sometimes called open. Everything in open is done off leash.  The exercises are heeling, drop on recall, retrieving a dumbell on a flat, retrieving a dumbell over a jump, broad jump, and long sits (3 minutes) and downs (5 minutes) with the handler out of sight.  Flyball is like a relay race with a team of 4 dogs and handlers.  The dogs are released they go over 4 jumps hit a box at the end that releases a tennis ball. They grab the ball and return over the jumps.  The whole race is timed and the fastest win.  The dogs love it.  plays to their high energy and prey drive.

OK thanks, I have seen the flyball on tv then. Didn't know that's what it was. The dogs did seem to love it and were very fast.

Good luck finishing those titles.  Agility remains my passion, so I hope you manage to get back into the agility ring sometime soon.  You might also check out the performance GSPs list on Yahoo!Groups which focuses on Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Rally, and Flyball.  We haven't had a good flyball discussion over there for a few years!
