hi all... Lola & i are going to her first match on saturday... and my first one in 33 years ........ we've been practicing stacking, etc ... but any grooming tips (? trim longest hairs end of tail?...do you clip whiskers? etc)..... attire advice for me?.... thanks! theresa

Theresa, I trim the long, wispy hairs at the end of the tail but not whiskers. Make sure nails are done too. You should wear something that shows off your dog. With my solid liver, I wouldn't wear black for example but a patterned skirt that shows her off. With my ticked dogs, I usually wear a solid color and usually light as they are darker ticked. Make sure you can run and bend down in whatever you choose. Stay relaxed and have fun! Gail

I trim long hairs on the tail, but not whiskers. I also keep the nails fairly short. If the dog needs a bath I usually bathe a week out so the coat maintains its coarse texture. I wear slacks (usually black) with either a suit coat top or a nice blouse. I can move better in slacks than a skirt. I have liver roan, ticked and patched dogs. Find what turns your dog on for baiting. It may be food or something else. For my girl it is a laser pointer. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I do my whiskers as i think this gives a nice clean look! I was always told to dress in "business attire" but if it is an outdoor show and its 90 plus degrees, be smart!! enjoy and have fun!

I don't do whiskers because my dogs are also performance dogs doing field work, agility, etc. Whiskers are there for a reason IMHO. GSPs are supposed to be working dogs too and should be judged accordingly. If the judge is bothered by whiskers, then I just won't get the win that day. That is just my philosophy, but conformation is also not my primary focus with my dogs. I do know allot of folks who do trim whiskers, also the feathering at the back of the legs and also the feathering in the skirting. IMO trimming whiskers, etc is primarily personal preference.

How was the show? Did it go ok? Did you have fun ?How many shorthairs were there?Did it bring back old memories Hope all was well (been far east)
