Hunted near Westfall yesterday and today for my Beulah Unit sage grouse.  This is my pup's 3rd hunt ever (after dove and forest grouse)  Yesterday I harvested one of my two allotted birds on a sight point from Rowdy.  He was staunch on point and when I took a step to walk in, it flushed, I shot the hen and it went down hard, but alive.  When Rowdy saw it flapping on the ground, he charged out after it and immediately proceeded to kill it, harming the breast a little, but I have no complaints, as he's still a pup and this just shows prey drive.  The hard mouth can be dealt with later.  He busted another sage grouse and I had a dinner shot on it, but I didn't take the shot, since he didn't hold point.  Then drove to Ontario, about a 1/2 hour away, and stayed the night in a friend's house, heading out early in the AM to catch them going/coming from water.  Well, as it turns out, Mr. Coyote beat me to the punch on the sage grouse this morning.  Saw two sage grouse kills (feathers and blood) where I didn't see any the day before.  Also heard yotes yapping when we got there a couple hundred yards away (like I chased them off driving out to the hunting location).  Saw zero sage grouse this morning, before heading to my other spot.  Had a grouse wild flush far out of gun range around 9 and never saw another one after that.
