Max & I got out for 2 hrs this morning & had some fun. I stopped by my friends & got her to take a picture of us !

Max slamed for this one ! Beautiful point ! next bird we bumped & the last bird was as perfect as the first with his point . I just could not  get in for a shot  & the bird flushed while trying . Great Time ! I never tire of this !

Nicely done! I agree with PB, that's a great photo of you two. There's just nothing quite like hunting grouse. Lots of pats to Max.

Thank's Pixie Bee ! Here are a couple more photo's. one of max back home with his bird & one to show the type cover we primarily hunt in. I am over 6 ft so getting through it can be tuff at times. It shows that when max is on point & "little" ole me is trying to find may way through that he is rock solid on his point so not to bump the bird. You can tell we had off for the last month due to deer season. He looks a little chubby .

Thank's Rowdy's dad , This is the type cover we hunt. I am off until the  1st of Jan. so it will be all for Max ! I did hear possibility of some snow the weekend I hope it holds as the conditions are perfect. Except for a little wind right now. Heading back out in a little while .

I'm glad you guys and the others on this board are getting out and hunting.
I have been deer hunting but not grouse hunting. I caught Lyme in Julyish and have been recovering. My dear hubby has off until the new year and we are going to see how much activity I can handle, the numbers have been good this year so hoping we can get a few contacts w/o much walking.
I DO MISS HUNTING WITH THE DOGS!

Wow, PB I didn't know about the Lyme disease, hopefully everything is good in terms of your recovery. And yes, getting out with the dogs is what it's all about.

Pixie Bee sorry to hear about your lyme encounter. Hang tuff & you can beat it. Darn tic's !
We did get out for the last hour of the day but the wind was whipping. max was trying his hardest to beat the wind. Occasionally he would look at me with the look of " what do you think .... any input " We will be going in the next hour . Cold out there this morning ! Anyone else who may be trying to get out good luck !

Thanks for the well wishes.
It's cold but at least we didn't get pounded with snow.

Good luck this morning.

Nice work! Great shooting! How do you hit anything shooting in that cover? There's more trees in that photo than in a 10 mile radius around most of our hunting areas. PB hope you get well quick and enjoy the rest of your season.

Nice work!

I will tell Max because it's all him ! We went to one of our favorite pieces of state land. Last year in this spot we had a day that consisted of 9 grouse flushed in a little over an hour. For here that is a lot of flush's. Yesterday went like this cold but beautiful blue sky. Again approx. 2 hrs in the woods.Max was maybe 30yrds to my right in heavy cover bell a jingling. Two grouse get up & out of there in two different directions. I marked both birds. Max was busy hunting in any case when we made it to where the birds  were . max slams for a second goes a little more slams again then a little more and then right back to work. We went for the first marked bird and Max had him .I couldn't put it together.I am getting old what can I say  Made a hook & tried to locate the second marked bird with no luck. I always say I should keep a diary of all the spots we have here in the leatherstocking region of NY. I keep them in my head !

I always plan to start a hunt journal every year but never do. Kind of regret I've never got around to it.

I always plan to start a hunt journal every year but never do. Kind of regret I've never got around to it.

I see your from Montana. In the early 80's I did a hunt in Winnet Montana Whitetail &Antelope. There were a lot of birds. There were guy's in our camp that were bird hunters.

But back to your regret of creating a journal. Every year I to say I will start one. Haven't yet ! I do the grouse & woodcock  log for the DEC every year though.
