Look what's heading your way.

This stuff started yesterday and has continued all day today. 40-50 mile/hr winds.

The Temp is below zero with the wind chill. Cold and snow wears out GSP energy!!

Can really throw the dummy far with the current catching the current of the high snow storm winds. Rocky did some great retrieves and didnot let the storm and cold temp bother him. He loved every minute but was glad when I gave him the verbal "head home" command!!!!

LOL. In the meantime, central WA is getting buried in feet of wet snow and freezing rain with very little fanfare. Looks like we're going to have an outstanding avelanche season......

While I was doing my first lap skijoring as a 'demo' at a local resort yesterday I made the mistake of not putting glasses on. The snow was coming down so fast and heavy I could hardly keep my eyes open and facing forward! I headed straight back up to the truck to grab a pair of clear safety glasses, which was an improvement - although I could have used windshield wipers on them.

Yeah they are saying about 6-8 inches by tomorrow at this time. I am ok with that as I am going to try taking the boys out on the trails with the snow shoes once we get a nice snow!

Sounds like fun, BUT.... I think with that crew you're going to need a sled one of these days.

As soon as you come here to teach me how to hook everything up. :-)I was going to buy some ski's and try out the skijoring thing but when I started looking at them I had no idea what to look for....I want to do an ebay purchase of them.

Rocky perfect table top begging height after warming up coming in from the Wisconsin snow storm.   We have very wide tractor tire bottom thinsulate snow boots, so no need for snow shoes in our back snow fields!!!.

If you don't know how to ski very well and need some instant gratification, I would suggest looking at a kicksled instead. I tell people that once they're able to control their speed and direction on hills then they're ready to skijor on the flat. XC skiing has a fairly stiff learning curve before you even get a dog added to the mess.

An overview of methods for hooking 1-3 dogs up and a link to a great site w/ instructions on how to make your own lines:

It rained here then snowed. Was very windy and cold. When I went out the dogs were all whining and shivering so I brought them all in. I am sure they were just playing me but I sure enjoyed being "dogpiled" on the couch. Not many better ways to warm up than a pile of GSP! LOL. Everything is ice here right now. I wish we'd get more snow. I am so afraid of them breaking nails on the ice. Not able to find the zinc for the nails yet. I looked at Tractor supply, Jay's sporting goods, Mackinaw Outfitters. I am headed to a big pet store in Petoskey by tommorow. See if they have it.
Marie - Rocky is awesome. Did him having his picture on a card go to his head. He's kind of like a celebrity now right?!

This is a picture from our Christmas Blizzard last year.  This is one of our fish ponds.  Our kids plane got turned back to California when they were 15 minutes from Denver because there was no room to park the planes.

This is the entrance to our driveway.  30 inch drift.  This was the first of two storms.

These two pictures are from the Spring 03 storm.  Heavy wet cement like snow.  So heavy the snowblower could barely handle it.

One year we had so much snow that our back door was covered up and we had to lower our GSP through the window to a bare spot under the window so she could go potty.  We generally get all our snow in one big shot.

Ace, here is a tip for the day for broken nails.

If the broken part of the nail is still attached, use super glue to hold it down and then wrap with thread, followed by a drop of super glue over the thread. If the broken nail is no longer intact, put a dot of super glue on the remaining nail and the put a bit of paper towel on it until it sticks and then put a little dab of super glue on top of the paper towel.

Super glue actually works like an anticeptic also. I always keep some in my first aid kit when I take the dogs hunting. Kind of like duct tape. (the handymans secret weapon)

You will probably have to order the zinc on line. It's not exactly a common suppliment, and when you do find it you'll probably be looking at something very expensive. I've ordered zinc from both howlingdogalaska.com and alpineoutfitters.net.

P.S. Ditto-ing your concerns about ice on toenails- it's also hard on the toenail beds- and also the superglue advice. Glue, vetwrap, and antibiotic eye ointment stuffed into a dog boot is my bare-bones field kit.

Thanks you guys. I just superglued Mocha's nail. I should have known that it was going to happen. It is frozen solid here right now, So icy I can't hardly walk on it. I almost glued my thumb to her toenail because she wouldn't sit still. Anyhow it seems to work.
Meg, I will check those sites. I am going to JAY"S to bet a couple pair of boots. I just hope they'll keep the darned things on.

Pointer Fan, those are some serious snow storm pictures!!!!! I can't even begin to imagine. Where do you even begin to shovel in storms like that? You can barely see your mail box. Bet the kids were off from school at least a week. I really hope you don't have a repeat in 2008!!!

We have about 24 inch drifts today on Xmas day. Tomorrows weather in Central WI is scheduled for 2 to 3 more inches of the white stuff Then on friday we are forcasted to get maybe a more serious amount so we may be catching up to 2003 Colorado storms!!! Glad Rocky is a big boy that can really plow thur the drifts
