The new pup throws up nearly everytime I take her in the car. We go out every day as I am trying to get her used to it and it's about a 5 minute drive to the park where she has a great time running for an hour or so.
I know alot of puppies get travel sick and usually grow out of it but how long does it usually take and does anyone have any adult dogs that are still sick in the car?
Not something i've experienced before. I always wait a few hours after feeding her before going out and sometimes she manages to the trip but all too often not.
She eats it again too. Revolting I know but I was told that as it's only regurgitated food and not illness vomit, it's fine. Is that right? |

I have had a few that would get car sick as pups, most grew out of it in a few months but one was a almost two before he finally outgrew it. Try giving the pup ginger or a few ginger cookies before a ride, ginger helps sooth the stomach. I also used Bonine, not sure if it's available where you are. It is for motion sickness but without the side effects of drowsiness |

| I think larger breed dogs tend to outgrow it quickly, as long as they don't grow to resent and dread the car. Some of my smaller breeds took longer to grow out if it, if at all, and what seemed to help them was to not be able to see out the window. Not always, but it did seem to help make it a bit better. |

My puppy Fauna who is now 2 years old used to get carsick. She didn't throw up, but she did drool buckets on trips. There are several things you can try. The ginger cookies were the first thing I tried, but they didn't seem to help. You do have to give them cookies 30 minutes or so prior to leaving, but in my case there was no effect. So, the second thing I tried was peppermint. I had some peppermint candy that was made with real sugar (stay away from any that has artificial sweetener as that is toxic for dogs). The peppermint helped, so I made a batch of peppermint candy and added more peppermint. It was butter candy so it was somewhat soft too so she could eat it easier than hard candy. I started giving it to her about 30 minutes prior to leaving and then any time she looked like she was getting queasy on the trip she got another one. That did the trick pretty well.
Opening windows can also help. In my case though when she looked out she got worse and the windows open only drew her to the window. My girl never got sick when we went in out truck because she was in the floor of the back seat and could not see out easily. So, she would just lay down and sleep and no drooling. I did try a crate that she could not see out, but that made no difference except I had a crate of drool. She did better when I left her loose in the car and in a vehicle where she couldn't look out.
She did outgrow the sickness, but she as about a year and a half. She still worries about it, and for a time would hesitate to get in the car. Now she is getting better as she figures out that the car does not make her sick and she likes the places we go. Lot's of patience helps too. |

| Also, forgot to add that there are some herbal remedies that you can spray on the chin before a trip that seem to help too. The herbal remedies as you can guess have peppermint and other herbs that are calming and settling. That said the peppermint candy worked the best for me. The down side is I can't leave peppermint out in a candy dish or it disappears because I now have a dog that loves peppermint. |

I have had Wendy since she was 8 wks old, she is now 2 1/2. She has gotten car sick since day one. Buckets of drool, kind a like Niagra Falls, sometimes vomits, but that has gotten better... . If I go on long trips, couple hrs or longer I give her a sedative from the vet. I have tried some herbal remedies, did not work for her. I think I will try the peppermint cookie, that sounds really good.. I sure hope your little one gets over the car sickness...still waiting for mine to get over it.... Good luck!! |

| I wouldn't give her the pure peppermint as it is very strong. Maybe put some on a small dog biscuit or a small bit of her kibble and give it to her. |

Windsor STILL pukes everywhere - no matter how often we take him or not, whether we feed him before hand or not - royal PITA to travel with him so we hardly do anymore with the dogs. Velvet is fine in the car. Would be so easy if he was good because then we could go out for a full day and have him with us but can't  |
