Thank you
I'm here
The storm left us w/o power for almost 48 hours
My husband was able to save our car
downed trees all over, some lives lost b/c of this in my area
tree uprooted and fell on a couple walking their dog - they were found 2 days later

staten island is one of the worst
mother lost her 2 sons - 2 &4 yo - wave knocked them from her grasp and they were found days later in the marsh

my sister's family is now living with my parents
house flooded,no power,contaminated water
and her home is only 25 miles away from us
her area of long island - devastated
just a few minutes walk from us and there are completely destroyed neighborhoods
looking out my window and some still don't have power
we live by the water
feet of sand pushed for blocks
cars and furniture tossed all over

please say a pray for all those who lost so, so much
(and that the looters don't take the rest)

Hearing about and seeing the devastation always makes me grateful for the small things. I sympathize greatly with everyone in the northeast as I grew up on the TX coast and have lived through several really nasty hurricanes and many smaller ones. I am very happy that everyone made it through. Makes you realize how very precious life is. I will continue praying.

Pixie, so glad to hear you're all ok. Am continuing my prayers for everyone that was in Sandy's path. There are still a lot of people and pets needing help.

Sending prayers for you guys on the Island. I'm not far from ya so if you need anything at all, give me a shout. We just got our power back on last night so we are good to go here. Our shore is SHOT. We are about 20 minutes from the beach and we are ok - just downed trees and wires. So many people are gonna be totalling their homes on the shore though. Please stay safe and if you need anything, let me know - I will make sure I go on here daily to check for any requests.

Thank you.

About the only thing we need is to stop feeling guilty.
Looking out the window and still seeing areas w/o power is unsettling.

Our lives are, more or less, back on track.
But so many are devastated.
It seems many did not have comprehensive coverage for their cars.
I'm trying to hook as many people as I can with dealers who will buy for parts.

Also seems as tho homeowners are seeing decent $$$ from the insurance companies.

I am glad you are mostly back to normal. It is hard to figure why you were spared and someone else was not. I know when hurricane Carla hit the TX coast the only house left standing was my grandpas. The only reason we could think of was when he built it he literally bolted all the studs together. The bolts held and didn't pop out like nails. They lost their front and back porch and had a foot or so of sand and silt inside, but the house survived, they cleaned it out and it is still there. For comparison Carla hit in about 1960 and was a Cat 4 hurricane and had a 15 ft tidal surge. My grandpa's house was a block off the beach. They had someone's roof in their backyard and a toilet.

Geez, the NE needs a break. I am hoping that it goes a different way or isn't too bad, but even just rain can be hard when recovering from a hurricane.

hope they are doing better

it's cold, do they have heat?
if not, and they may know this already, fill a water bottle with hot water and snuggle with it, one by the feet and one by the tummy

Glad to hear you have faired well.  It takes so long to get over the damages from these types of storms.  One of our cars flooded in Hurricane Isaac (as well as our home).  It took several weeks to get an adjuster out there for the car, but I was thankful we had one that was parked at another location.  Now the house, we are still waiting on our settlement on the flood claim.  Typical government.  Our private wind and hail coverage already came out and sent a check for the wind damage that occurred.

Like Bev says, you start to enjoy the smaller things in life and material things just are not as important anymore.  Sometimes less is better.  And gosh . . . you do just love to see those trucks come down your street that restore power.

Being in Europe and being from the UK I cannot comprehend this kind of disaster. I just hope I never get to experience it.

I wish for the best for those effected.

wasn't the UK flooded in 2007 and this past summer?

Glad to hear so many on the forum from the East Coast are OK. Prayers for all, and all that lost so much.

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd

GLAD YOU ARE O.K. I have been checking and seen your post . Its hard to watch storms unfold when you live else where and know people that are in it. I was glued to the t.v. watching for 3 nights . MY 90 year old friend just got power last night at 8 pm. We had sent him a box of food about 3 weeks ago . He said he ate it all and had some good italian pasta to enjoy .He was very happy to have it . It wasnt planned for the storm but worked out great . I hope you are doing well and staying safe .(been far east )
