We live near enough to Duke University and they have a Canine Cognition Center that over the years has asked for people to bring their dogs in for testing.

The tests are devised by and run by grad students working on a thesis. We have been fortunate enough to have gone 3x now.

Here is my write-up of yesterday's visit

That is so cool you get to do that with him! and that he is so amazing at tricking the students!

I know you have mentioned you thought maybe he was crossed with great dane but in the pic with his bandana I see mastiff... but then in your avatar he looks more GSP! it would be nice to know for sure what he is other than amazing!

Every time we go there I always feel bad that I don't do more serious training with him - he is so happy to work at whatever it is they ask.

As for his mix, truly who knows, he's a shelter mutt. Dane/mastiff/boxer are all part of the mastiff lines - his chest definitely comes from that part of his DNA. It is totally ridiculous LOL It really shows when he sits and he has significant jowels

I will always say GSP is the most likely contributor to his being - in drive, personality and athletic abilities.

Ahhhh bandana picture...love it! How neat! We are in a college town, but no cool animal behaviorism studies like that going on. That would be a lot of fun and since my BS is in Psych I think I'd be the annoying lady calling asking to bring my dog all the time just so I could participate and watch lol.

What a dapper and smart boy you have there.

Definitely has GSP in him, because he definitely picked up the GSP smarts. So funny, when I tell people how smart GSPs are compared to other dogs they laugh, but they really are smart dogs and like a constant challenge. I bet if they did a test where they drilled the dogs he would flunk it, and on purpose too. Shorthairs love the challenge, but not the drill work. Not surprised Bugsy did so well.

Hey, I have five shorthairs I train all the time. They are very smart dogs and most people mistake that for stubborn, contrary, etc. Nope they just get bored. I think I may have met one or two of Bugsy's relatives. LOL
