I thought I would try to get some still pics from a video we shot of our 9 month old GSP jumping in the pool.  He will not dive after a toy yet, but he will jump right on top of us if we are not careful.  I have read some people asking how to get a dog in a pool.  I am no expert but will share what we did. Each of these pool sessions were about 1 week apart.  Just to note, he never seem scared by the pool, I just pushed a little to do what I thought he could do.

Session 1 - pulled him in and he never got his paws under the water.  Looked like a total goof, but would come to the side of the pool when called.  He seemed pretty calm though when I would hold him in the water.

Session 2 - had to pull him in, but started to swim a little by the end of the day.  Seemed to really enjoy being held in the water.

Session 3 - swam good and much faster and would enter the pool at the steps by the end of the day.  Would kind of slide in from the side.

Session 4 - Swimming fast, would actually catch most of the adults.  Had to really watch for claws at this point.  Would jump in off the top step and would give a little jump from the side.

Session 5 (pics below) - Got his confidence to jump in, but will only jump in if people are in the pool.  The pics below I had him in a sit stay and got him to chase me into the pool.  He had about a 10-12 foot running start.  Any idea how far they get to run in the dock dive competition?  Now that I see he will jump on top of me (my fault), time to get him to chase toys in the pool.

Bella says she is way jealous of your pool :) Looks like a lot of fun. Those underwater claws are LETHAL...look out. Once upon a time I assumed I'd be faster in the water
than Bella, but I often leave the lake with "Bella art" all down my arms, legs, and belly as proof that she will ALWAYS catch up to me, and then try to climb up on me as
her victory celebration :)

The pool is my brother's so I guess I am a little jealous too. If it were mine, would probably always have a wet dog. Just lucky he and his wife don't mind me bringing the pup. I wanted to get him comfortable around the water while he was young. Plus my brother's son is scared of dogs and seeing how fun they can be in a pool has helped a lot.

Great pictures.  I take my two GSPs to the lake at least 3 times a week.  There are steps going down into the water on the northshore and they just leap off of them with a big splash.  No doubt they make great water retrievers.

Awesome pictures! My guy fell in off the diving board and panicked the first time. I had to jump in because he was sinking. I directed him towards the stairs in the shallow end and he now knows to go in and out by only using the stairs. He loves the water even in spite of the first scary fall. :) You will have a blast with the pool!
