Well as of midnight Windsor and Velvet will be on the bronze plane of Petplan (AGCS Marine Insurance Company, Fetch Insurance Services). We just don't trust those two at all, especially the way they play in the dark out in the yard and lately they are eating everything that moves outside if they can catch it! And then all I can think of is the Winter - which I LOVE SNOW and they do too and the last time we had over 10 foot high snow piles that Lou plowed, I'd throw the ball from pile to pile when we just had Windsor and the way he would run and slip and fall on his head, made us pull the trigger. I know many of you have accounts set up for your dogs but I'm not good at saving, if it sits in the bank, something else will go wrong instead of the dogs and we'll end up using it.
So not too bad monthly..... $36 for Windsor and $42 for Velvet. Windsor is not neutered and Velvet is spayed. $8K yearly cap per dog, no benefit schedule, $200 deductible per dog, 100% reimbursement per dog (you can change all those options). Includes accidents, illnesses, breed specific conditions and meds. Does not include pre-existing conditions. We got a 5% web discount and a 10% multiple dog discount.
Hope we don't have to use it but it puts our minds at ease. |

Hindsight is always 20/20… I wish I would have done something like that. You never anticipate something going wrong, but when it does, you’re always glad you have it. |

| We have pet plan too...although I'm thinking of re-adjusting our benefits/payments coverage amts. Since it's accident/illness only it works perfect for us since those are our biggest concerns with such an active breed. We've used it for her coccidia struggle the past few months and they have been very easy to work with! |

| Well after watching my coworker get a $2500 bill because her bulldog wrecked his two bottom teeth yesterday, we finally got the insurance. We kept talking about it but finally bought it today. They got good reviews so we will try them. |

Petplan bronze here too. Paid out quickly & easily the only time I used it. We bought it after Bugsy had a TPLO ($3k) as they will cover the other knee should it go. My only complaint is the premiums have gone up significantly each year |

I got the bronze plan for Bearoff last Nov or Dec. I am mainly worried about serious injuries too. $200/year for Bearoff. I hope the premium doesn't go up. I don't have any insurance for Jenny. She's probably the one that would need it as she is so crazy. |

I bet the premiums go up because of age? Velvet costs than Windsor and she is 3 years older than him? kpwlee - they told me I have to wait 6 months before anything would cover knee problems - did they tell you that also? My poor coworker - she is really bumming out - she just told me they need to keep her dog another day at the animal hospital as he is having stomach sickness due to the anesthesia and is now on an IV drip for hydration. Now she is wondering how much more this is going to cost and she just went through a divorce so money is very tight and she doesn't have a credit card. So I am glad we got the insurance. Woke up to Windsor dry heaving this morning - must have been all the bugs he ate last night but if he is sick, I'll be covered. |

Looks like PetPlan is one of the more popular insurances. I have been comparing Pet Plan and VPI. Has anyone had any experience with VPI? Leaning towards Pet plan at the moment, we like the fact you can choose and adjust the deductible/reimbursement, etc. |

kpwlee- So the insurance would only cover one knee and not the other? Sort of like a pre-existing condition? |

Bugsy had his first TPLO before I even was aware of insurance. Petplan is the only one that does not consider the second knee a pre-existing condition. All the other insurers consider a second CCL(usually called ACL) tear pre-existing because it is so common for the second knee to blow out and they do not cover it. DrWiffel I wouldn't think Dex's would be like that because it wasn't a CCL tear. Smylinacha the specific terms are dictated by your state - we had a 30 day wait on everything but nothing above that. As for the premiums - I think we started at $180 then the second year was $220 and this year was nearly $300 (I pay per annum). I called them up and wanted clarification and got a song and dance that they had reviewed their rates over the breed designations and his (large mixed breed) had been undersold (whatever the right term is) and had been adjusted up. I checked around and none of my friends had similar increases so we shall see. I do realize that as he gets older it is likely better to have than not although we sure could have used it when we seemed to be going to the vet every other month or so with an injury LOL |

One of the girls I work with has VPI and she is so good at making a spreadsheet of how much came out of her pocket versus what VPI paid out. Her dog needed an eye surgery and it cost $4200 and VPI only paid out $600 of it but she had more or less of a basic plan and once her dog had some other illnesses, they called it "pre existing" and would not cover. Not sure what she will do when that is up end of this month. Plus I did not like the fact they had a benefit schedule for each illness. Her spreadsheet tallied at over $8K out of her pocket for the year and VPI only paid $1600 toward that entire $8K. kpwlee - wow - sounds like what happened with us with auto insurance a couple of years ago - we have great driving records and Geico jacked up our insurance. I called and they said because they had to review coverage in CT and living in CT causes the rates to get jacked because there are many more idiots that live here now that can't drive properly and cause many accidents. So we left Geico, went with Met along with a company discount we got and then the following year they jacked it up so back to Geico cuz they came down - and I have no idea why and our insurance is up in August - I'm wondering what they'll do next to us. Insurance is such a scam but we don't have a money tree in the back yard so this is better than nothing We are paying $777 for both dogs annually - 100% reimbursement but I think that depends on what they call "reasonable". |

Lola - did you go here yet? My vet had the Petplan pamphlet in her office all the pet insurances with reviews are on here. You can see reviews also if you go to Yelp and type it in as well. http://www.petinsurancereview.com/dog.asp |

smylinacha-- I havent seen that review site, Ill check it out. Thanks for the info!!! We have another dog also, who is almost two, so I like what petplan has to offer so far, especially with a multi dog discount. He is a pointer mix, and not quite as active (and brave) as Lola so we definitely like the different levels you can purchase! Thanks so much for the info! |

| I tried buying it online and got confused because I did not see the discounts come up in my cart. If you buy online w/ petplan you get a 5% web discount and then a multiple dog discount so I called. The rep was really nice and he saw everything I started to do online and I bought it over the phone with him but still got the 15% off. |
