 hi there,

our dog jessica is 19 months old, and we've definetly noticed her calm down a bit in the last few months. a lof of gsp owners have told us that gsp tend to go down one knotch in energy level between the ages of 2 and 3 as they mature and then again around 7/8 years old they mellow out. is this the case? Jess is good most of the time, but a half knotch down would be nice...can we expect this as she matures?

thanks,

tt

You can certainly expect it as she matures, but whether those time frames are right is really dependent on the dog.

Velvet is going to be 7 and she has more energy than Windsor who is 3! Velvet does pass out real good at night though and Windsor has crabby time every single night at around 8:15 and it last for 30 to 45 minutes - never a night goes w/out a Windsor tantrum but once he gets through it, he passes out too. This consists of him emtpying out his toybox, wanting everything to be thrown in the air, whining, barking, staring at us, sometimes pawing us while we are trying to watch TV and then all of the sudden he stops, crashes & burns. He is so predictable - he does it pretty much the same time every single night. This is after him running in the yard most evenings, a good walk & playtime. He sleeps in and she's up early.  During the day Velvet runs in circles whether it be in the yard or in the pen when we are at work - non stop - same direction.  Or she steals toys from Windsor.

Kim -- Windsor sounds just like Bo. I literally have to put him in a headlock some nights so he will crash. He just doesn't want to stop if there is an opportunity for fun :)

Windsor was HORRIBLE last night! This time it lasted until 11 p.m. He was so squirmy! I couldn't take it anymore and let him out and he didn't want to come back in and I just wanted to go to bed. He was in bug hunting mode - he knew the bugs were out and probably didn't want to be inside. Velvet was passed out. And I forgot to take their tags off so it was jingle jangle with Windsor until I could get him back in the house.
