My Lucy is definitely prey driven. I love watching her in the yard hunting and pointing and jumping around trying to catch butterflies. However, she also spends a lot of time sniffing and scratching in the dirt for bugs, which she eats.
Do any of your furkids like eating bugs? BTW, I'm not starving her. |

Lol, Bella also keeps herself busy chasing black flies (go for it, Bella, get them ALL), and stalking and chasing butterflies. However, when she seems to actually get a fly or moth of sorts in her mouth...she isn't sure what to do with it. She will try thinking she wants to eat it...but then spit it out again. Usually once she has a bug in her mouth, she holds it there trying to decide what to do with it, with a worried face. I'm sure she has eaten some, but this seems to be a dilemma for her
Her best "I got it momma, but I don't think I want to eat it" face:

Oh, what a look. Lucy will keep banging her nose on the window or patio door trying to catch flies even when they are outside. I'm thinking of putting a windex wipe on the end of her nose so she can clean the window at the same time. |

| We can be sitting quietly in the living room and all of a sudden one of the dogs will jump up in the air and snap at a fly.................makes us just as we think they're asleep. |

| Moths, locusts, june bugs, you name it, they eat. Didn't you know bugs are a delicacy. I love it when they catch a locust and the locust starts buzzing. The look on their face is priceless. |

I am really laughing now! Binni and I were just outside and she was "hunting" a June bug. After she knocked it down, she began pawing it. She took a lick and then decided that she didn't like it. But, she would run away and then return to the bug. Finally I removed the bug because she refused to come in the house knowing that it was still laying on the ground. (it's too hot outside to play this game for any length of time) She LOVES to chase lighting bugs in the evening. |

Oh, definitely. I can relate to the locust, and the firefly stories! Sadie is hysterical at night, and will spend hours by the outside light catching, or trying to catch bugs (if we let her). She caught her first locust (or maybe Cicada?) a couple of nights ago. She kept pawing, and trying to bite it as it buzzed. She resorted to barking after it. I used to play fetch outside with her at night (last summer). She would suddenly launch into the air (I think I have stated before that she can JUMP!) after a firefly. Especially funny this year with the heat - their light doesn't stay on all that long! The other thing during this time (especially annoying) is the toads. Both dogs have become fearless (or fearful) toad hunters. They, at least, have stopped trying to bite them (some sort of chemical causes them to drool like crazy when they do). But the barking is a little annoying... |

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd |

| Both of ours love any kind of bug. I let them eat them but it grosses me out when Windsor eats carpenter ants and then gags them back up. Or the time he ate the big spider and barfed it up and it was still alive and Velvet ate it afterwards and barfed it up again - two barf piles at once - yuck! I don't think moths, fireflies or those kind of bugs can hurt them though? |

| Smylinacha - I STILL sway Bella away from large spiders because of your story. She has yet to get her chops on one (that I know of). She's such a priss about eating bugs I could see one coming back up easily. blah |

LOL yes Bugsy is appropriately name His absolute favorite are cicadas/locusts. He'll tap them to keep them buzzing and after they fizzle out he munches away. One day we were heading out for a walk and he had his big ol' mouth shut and I stopped and was asking him "what have you got?" he wouldn't open his mouth and then about 200 yds later he opened his mouth and a cicada flew out. hahahaha so funny He kills june bugs (the green ones) but they clearly don't taste good He has finally given up on the toads - the ones we have here make them foam more than drool. We've had a few too many times when he was looking like a shaving cream dispenser. I am happy he doesn't bother butterflies but all other bugs are game |

| My dog is sure intrigued by bugs and especially butterflies. I haven't really seen her eat any bugs other than a taste or two of ants that found their way into our house. Even then, she didn't eat them. We did have a five minute stand-off with a small toad a couple of nights ago. That ended peacefully with the toad hopping off. |

Ours love the chase, haven't really seen them eat anything yet but they love to chase and catch. Here they're after a moth in the lamp. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=88A300ED90A07DF1!760&authkey=!AOSSvWX66B9jMIQ |

Havoc chases and eats bugs. Funny to watch him try to pounce on them if he doesn't lick them up after a couple of attempts. He probably would have eaten a few frogs while we were on vacation if we would have let him (the beach was alive with them at night). |

| Ours' are obsessed with flies, blackflies, deerflies, bees ... essentially anything that flies and gets in close. I swear to god, our boy in particular is going to go through a window one day. Sigh! |
