Loved the video. What a great yard you have for them to play in. How I envy the grass. That picture is totally adorable. Although there are no young kids around for Lucy to play with. I can't imagine her not having a ball playing with them if there were. She just loves everyone. |

Bella should play footie for Real Madrid - totally reminds me of Kintra's fancy footwork teasing my wee nephew Valo with her evasive moves with the football They're really good at teasing with a ball! Cute video |

| Dylan doesn't know what he's up against. If Bella is anything like my Sadie, Dylan will be fast asleep from fatigue and Bella will still be runnnig around with that ball in his/her mouth. |

The yard is at my in-laws. They do have a very nice space. I'm envious of their fence. Bella has learned to open the sliding door to let herself in and out. I think my Father-in-law likes that he doesn't have to get up every few minutes to do so lol. They go in circles like that for quite some time...get bored of the circles...do something else...and then go back to it shortly. They wear each other out I got tickled to see it for the first time (as I'm not usually there if the in-laws have both Bella and the nephews), because Bella clearly keeps her circle much smaller for him than she does for us. She loves to be chased. I have had many people ask me if I have kids because she is so good with them, and I tell them she just seems to instinctually know. OR, it could just be since their faces are at kissing level without jumping there is no need to be a crazy hyper jumping mess with kids |

| You get a two for one deal w/ gsp's and kids - they both need a nap afterward and you get peace and quiet for a little bit! |

| Love the video and a perfect song to go along with it. I'm pretty sure 99.9% of GSPs are not good with kids - they're GREAT with kids. Rowdy when he was 10 weeks old met a 5 month old baby. Instead of trying to bite it's face and hands like he did with grownups, he gently licked the baby's feet then very gently on its face. It was like he knew not to be too rough. |

Even as puppies they seem to instinctively know how to be with kids. This is Kintra as a pup with my nephew Valo:

She was going through a testing bitey stage but never attempted to nip Valo - she just knew not to do it. On the gsp rescue sites the only warnings about gsps with kids is because they can be so boisterous |

| One of the many things that drew us to choosing a GSP was all of the great things I read about how great they typically are with children. We don't have any of our own yet, but I coach youth volleyball. Havoc went to the park with us a couple of weeks ago and some of the kids I coach showed up. While the older kids and adults were playing the 8yr olds went to play with Havoc. It was amazing to watch him interract with them. He went from his crazy play mode into a much softer mode; no jumping, no mouthing, let the girls win at tug of war. It was like he knew that they couldn't play rough like my boyfriend does. |

How cute. Elise is such a good sharer Luna has such a nice and gentle bite taking it away from her. I just love so much how they just know. Such intelligent and kind spirits they are. I watched another video that came up after. Elise just happy and bouncing around, and Luna just calm as ever. Wonderful! |

Yes & No.

GSPs good with kids??? Nope...absolutely not.
A lot depends on the individual GSP, as well as the timing between dog's & kid's ages.
Adopted my 1st GSP from a family that had to get rid of their hyper active 14 mo old pup, b/c it was mowing their youngest kids down. There'd been several injuries & great potential for serious accident. The dog was prone to racing around in the house & tottlers were as bowling pins.
GSP's reputation for high energy is well earned. Some adolescent GSP's tend to be somewhat indifferent to people. Have close association w/two GSP's that wouldn't be good w/kids b/c of this. It is a phase however & they grow out of it, but it might take 6 years! Recently I didn't even recognize a bitch that had been indifferent & hyper active. She'd matured into an enthusiastic cuddler, the change was profound. Suspect both had exceptional early hunting potential.
Other GSP's are Muppets from whelping to Rainbow Bridge.

Everything is yes and no when it comes to dogs...any breed. Proper socialization and training play a big roles in a dog's temperament. However, it doesn't cease to amaze me how my crazy all over the place girl turns into a calm sitter and gentle face kisser when kids come around. Now if only I could keep the little girl next door who adores Bella from calling her name constantly and confusing Bella as to if she is allowed to leave the yard or not Though, I have to admit it makes me smile every time I hear her saying "Bella Mae!" so enthusiastically. |
