I have been checking out the forum since my new GSP came home in December.  The different topics have helped me learn a lot about the breed.  My pup is not a hunter.  I am part of the crowd with an active family and wanted a dog that could keep up.  Since everyone seems to ask for pics, I thought I would try to upload a few.  Thanks again for the info.

Home at 9 weeks.

12 weeks

Playing with my friends GSD at about 18 weeks

Resting at the park about 6 months

Hanging with his girlfriend.  Funny how they seem to find each other.

What a cutie! And welcome. It is funny how they find one another. When we were socializing Bella as a pup, she needed no encouragement with other GSPs or even any other pointing breed. She just seemed to know they were more like her, and was comforted by that.

We are always wanting to see pictures . . . nice looking puppy.

I live near New Orleans in Mandeville.  I work occasionally in New Orleans and train with some people from Metairie and New Orleans.  My GSPs jog with me and we compete in obedience and agility.  I don't run into too many people that have GSPs here . . . so many people think they are dalmations, or catahoulas, but rarely do they know it is a German Shorthair.

I do not hunt either and once tried to take mine for a walk in Audubon Park while my daughter was a junior zookeeper at Audubon Zoo . . . never again.  Too many squirrels and ducks and assortment of birds there.  So while I do not hunt, they have the natural ability to point birds and chase furry animals.  I had to stay over at the levee by the Mississippi river while she did her volunteer work there!

Great looking pup!! I have an eight-month old male too and he's calming down just a bit...

On Roz's quote - I know exactly what she means - we are not allowed to hunt in India and yet, Seve manages to find cats, birds and anything else so naturally and wants to chase everything in sight and managed to catch two chickens yesterday too. He's obsessed with them.

I have been to audubon a few times and the amount of wildlife keeps them busy. I go there when my five year old wants to ride her bike. Years ago we would go to the dog levee when there were no dog parks around. That is actually where I first saw a pointer and thought they were an impressive looking dog. Would like to go back but concerned he might go too far into the river and get lost. Now I go to the local playground before it opens so he can chase squirrels or just take him to the Lafreniere dog park. That is where the pic with the other pointer was taken.

I get the catahoula comments all the time. Usually they ask me what type of catahoula mix is he.
