Hey all, I don't know what to do with my GSP puppy who is almost 11 months old. It's raining outside like pouring so we can't go outside. You all know if they don't get their excerise, they go crazy. What do you guys do when it's raining? Any suggestions of what I can do on days when it rains?

Thanks,

Katie

Play the find it game or do obedience or all of the above. Mental stimulation is as good as physical for wearing them out.

Ah, I asked this same question back in the day when Bella was a pup because it was the dead of winter and the temperature didn't always allow playing outside.

I got some great advise that I still use on rainy days - those that Texas Belle has suggested, and if you have stairs...fetch with stairs is a great rainy day exercise.

With hide and seek, I started with a toy, and then lead up to hiding myself lol. I will have Bella sit and wait in a room (she sees me leave with a toy so she knows we are about to play "go find") I hide it and I come back in the room where she is waiting and tell her "go find" - she picked this up instantly. I throw an absolute party for her when she finds things (to stay involved in the game after hiding the toy..we will do a "hot cold" type thing and say "yep" or "nope" if she is on the right track (sometimes she forgets she can use her nose when she is inside). SHE LOVES it!

I also am wondering if you meant to say 11 weeks old...as if he is 11 months old, unless you just got him I doubt this is your first rainy day. If it indeed 11 weeks, I wouldn't do using the stairs for fetch just yet. But any mental stimulation at 11 weeks should bring on a puppy nap pretty quickly.

I play mental games like also, hide toys and treats, play fetch inside, tug inside, or sometimes we just go out in the pouring rain :)
