I would definitely be interested to hear about the high-performance energy treat. Thanks for all the replies.

bullet is 22 weeks or so, and about 45lbs now...he's extremely skinny compared to his little butterball brother and sister who the breeder owns. i did the exact same thing as you though...thought my pup was a skinny little bugger, so i picked up some other food (blue buffalo puppy, purina puppy one and purina large breed puppy) and mixed those bags in with his current. he had some severe issues though, to the point where i came home and had one hell of a mess to clean. his bowels ended up going into severe stress mode, and he showed signs of blood coming out...not to go into details, but apparently it was too hard on him, although everyone's told me gsp's have stomachs of steel. in talking with the local pet value, and my vet, they said keep him on what he's on, beef up the portion a little bit, i.e instead of 2 cups, do 2.3 cups...and see where it goes. some dogs won't "beef up" until a year of age. the breeder also feeds his pups purina puppy, i feed my dog "chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul" which has 0 fillers in it. and apparently filler food can, not always, but can upset a pups stomach if you do the switch. if he does show signs of tummy troubles, get a can of organic pumpkin, and feed him a tbsp every meal. it'll help him "firm"up. also ovbiously the more active the pup, the more he burns. i also leaned out bullet's running offleash, and especially in this heat. little by little....oh, and i also feed him ONCE IN A BLUE MOON table scraps, like grisle off of a steak, or put a little oil in his food for fat. :)

Our boy had a sensitive tummy when he was little, especially to water.

As a GSP owner and breeder I would say adult GSPs have strong stomachs. GSP puppies, however, are much more sensitive. Pumpkin is hood for loose stool. I usually give a dose or two of Pepto Bismol and the puppy tummy troubles usually clear up. When switching food I do it gradually with puppies, but with adults I just switch them over and have never had any issues.
