So Rowdy is very good about not chewing on inside furniture, clothes, etc, but when I take him outside he tries to eat EVERYTHING.  I know that puppies like to be oral, but this is a whole new level.  I am constantly pulling rocks, tanbark, sticks, plants out of his mouth.  When I catch him eating something he shouldn't I loudly yell "NO" once and pull him away from that.  He just won't stop eating dirt, rocks, wood, etc.  He even puked up a bunch of tanbark last night, despite me trying to not allow him to swallow them.  How can I stop this?  Anything I should be doing that I'm not?  I do not want to end up with stomach surgery on my new pup.

Your little guy is learning about his world right now, and a big part of that is orally. Supervise like you are. Have you worked on a "drop" command for Rowdy? This is a great command and can be a good safety measure too. Bella is a destructive chewer, nothing makes her happier. Though, luckily she is mindful of what is hers and what is ours. To be extra safe, I taught her "momma's" and "you may have". If she ever has something that isn't hers or that she shouldn't have, I never shout NO...it would make me a total buzz kill and she would end up just ignoring me because she knows I'm about to take whatever fun she is having. Instead, I taught her "show momma" and she brings things proudly. If she can't have it, I praise her for bringing it and then "trade up" so to speak with something that she can have. I never take something from her and leave her empty handed. You will find you have a dog that stops bringing you things, and may even go off to hide or run from you when they do have something they think is great. The "momma's" command comes in great outside because if she gets into my flowerbeds or landscaping, it takes one time telling her it is mine and she stays out. They pick up on things very quickly.

Lucky for me, she examines rocks with her mouth but decides they aren't worthy of eating. Try having some toys he can have while outside too. But training a few commands I have mentioned may help to teach him boundaries.
