Welcome to

Im heart broken. My husband and i paid a visit today to what we thought would be our new pup. I then found out that the mama just got diagnosed with osteosarcoma and had her hind leg amputated last week....sigh..... They claim that it is not proven to passed on by heredity but what are my odds honestly ?? high?? I mean we love this new pup so much im ready to take the risk. She's born and needs a loving home right? I would love to have her even if shes fated to a sad fate ... Is this silly should we pass up on this pup?
Oh how sad for all involved (((hugs)))
I don't know whether this nothing or something for your pup. I do think I would feel the same as you
I am so sorry for both you and the breeder. As for whether or not to take the puppy, that is a decision you need to think long and hard about. Here is a link to a pretty good article on osteosarcoma: www.caninecancer.com/Osteosarcoma.html
It does indicate that this type of cancer has a genetic component that should be considered. Also, interestingly enough dogs and bitches are less likely to get this type of cancer if they are intact. I would do some research on the internet and then think long and hard about taking the puppy. You might also want to discuss this with your vet. Don't let your heart be the only guiding factor here as this decision is something you will have to live with for a long time.
Good luck in your decision, and know that you have an online family here that will support you in whatever decision you make.
