That is fantastic news. I sympathize with you on the running and jumping. When Belle was about a year she tore a bicep tendon and had to have surgery and was on no running and jumping for 8 weeks and then we had to do rehab to build her back up so she didn't injure something else. Not easy with a shorthair and especially a young shorthair.

So glad to read your news - sounds like he will be on his way back to being a young, crazy gsp in no time at all!  Something that i read quite a lot from different sources when Kintra was ill is that despite it being difficult to keep a gsp down (and calm ) for mending purposes on the physical side, they tend to recuperate faster than many breeds purely because they are so enthusiastic about life and excited about everything.  I remember one article calling them the "eternal optimist" of all breeds and dont lose their curiosity and enthusiasm despite any feeling of illness or pain - def something i heard time and time again about them on different forums.  Sending cuddles for the wee man

Miss you forever Kintra baby xxx

I know :-) Now I get to start getting back into the swing of things. It will still be a slow recovery (around 6 weeks or so), but as the saying goes “easy does it”. I’m excited to start the walks as well seeing as I’m starting to get out of shape due to the lack of exercise Thanks again for all your support!

Just wanted to give a few updates on Dexter.

He seems to be doing really well. I’m really hoping to see some good results on his next checkup. He is now starting to act more like his old self again and wanting to move a lot more. We’ve been able to take him on a few walks so far which is great, and now seems to be putting normal pressure on his leg again. Also I switched his food to Purina Pro Performance, and he seems to be doing well on it, the “squirts” have all cleared up but still keeping an eye on it to watch for anything out of the ordinary. The next checkup should be about 4 weeks from now, and if I get some good news and he’s allowed to run again off leash, I think I’m going start the training for birds again. Thanks for all the well wishes! I think they helped.

good news all the way around
As a survivor of my dog's knee surgery I will just caution you to keep it slow and steady for the next 4 wks and then ask very specifically how to progress to full activity after that check-up.
Too much too soon can really screw things up and you've both had a long enough road!
Give him a little kiss for me!

Yep! Slow walks with a leash. That's how the tortoise beat the hare (well… kind of anyway). Thanks again all!

Dexter had his follow up yesterday from his last surgery. FINALLY some good news from the vet! A clean bill of health! Dexter is no longer limping, he can now stand and run without any visible pain, and I now have permission to do some off leash work :). I only had one warning, which was to not take him out to the Dakota’s for a 4 day trip (for a while) or anything because it might be a little too stressful on the leg. I’m looking forward to the future, and I imagine Dexter is looking forward to it as well. He sure seems happier as well.

Thanks again for all your support! You guys are a truly great bunch of people.

Oh yea for the good news!!!
Do still take it a bit slow as they'll be significant muscle loss/ atrophy. The other leg will work overtime until the repaired leg can go full speed.
I wish you & him nothing but a smooth road to a full life!
