Today while at work 2 ladies walked by with very nice dogs that turned out to be labradoodles. I have heard of this breed but these were the first ones I have met . What is the sporting dog(bird dog) that looks like a labradoodle. I have seen them before but could not remember what breed they were? Curious if anyone can shed some light . |

| First, a labradoodle is not a breed it is a mutt. The hunting dog you are talking about is probably the Irish water spaniel or maybe the Portuguese water dog which is in the Working dog group. |

| I think Portuguese Water Dogs look the most like a doodle mutt, but there is also the curly coated retriever. They don't have the doodle face though...they look like a retriever with...well, a curly coat lol. |

| My neighbor has a goldendoodle. Her son bought it for her because it was so expensive. Why do people spend so many $$$ on a mutt? |

| A spinone coat is not at all curly and it is pretty coarse too. |

Well someone in our training class as a Double Doodle. I mean really, a Double Doodle. The dog has no hip sockets. I can only imagine the issues this dog will have later in life.
I could go on about the doodles I have seen in training class in our area. But I will just say one more thing, Doodles of any kind are just bad breeding and should not be sold with designer prices. |

I am a GSP man ! Not looking for a doodle or any other dog ! I will say the dogs were very well behaved & great temperment. Having been bit enough times in my life to know I don't care for it. Any dog that is friendly gets a pass from me ! I was just trying to think of what sporting breed in my eyes resembled one.
Don't be start'n rumors !

LOL! the one I know is very well behaved and still full male never had a reason to neuter him...he happens to not have health issues either, so they got lucky with their mutt breeding... |

| labradoodles are great. they are hypoallergenic, none shedding for the most part, and highly intelligent. my only issue with them is that they can turn out super cute (more like a lab) or fugly like a poodle. |

I wish you guys would use the word mixed breed as I have reserved the use of the word MUTT for my dogs |

I have met a few Spinone. Drool magnets! Did I ever mention I hate drool? I mean really hate it. I was sitting in a room with a spinone and it shook and drool went all over me. Oh man, was I annoyed! Of all people, it had to find me??? There were plenty of people between the drool and me. I couldn't wait to get home, shower and change clothes. otherwise, they're a great dog and I would recommend the breed. I hate drool! |

Not to start a debate, but since they are a mixed breed, the hypeallergenic and shedding issues can be a hit or miss. |

My gsp, Bearoff, must be defective. He drools like crazy. I posted a photo of his drool fangs a good while ago - about 4" hanging down on each side of his mouth. Then if he shakes his head, they wrap around his snout. When I make him sit while I am filling his food dish or waiting on a biscuit, he gets the floor soaked. Oh well. |

I also don't really understand how any dog could possibly be 'hypoallergenic.' It's my understanding that dander is what causes allergies, and dander comes from skin, so any dog that has skin will have dander I think dogs that shed less have less dander, but dander is always there for any breed, so no dog can be 100% hypoallergenic. |

Nope, never seen that ... Isn't that in the breed standard |

Ok, the drool thing? I would love it if Keely drooled, then i would hopefully dislodge a flush out some of the DISGUSTING stuff that she stores in her chops until she comes for a cuddle or a lean on my lap. Seriously, she seems to store dead insects, sheep poo, grass etc in her chops for later, then wipes it on me or furniture
Erm, i think i may get torn apart for this question but it's a genuine one borne out of complete ignorance (a common problem with me ) but what is the difference between a "breed" such as a gsp and a "mixed breed" (mutt, mongrel, etc)? Are gsp's not derived from a mixture? Or is the label purely due to the lack of intent (or perceived advantages) of certain mixtures? Honestly, i'm not being cheeky, i'm just genuinely curious. |

I found this article on-line which I thought was interesting ...
