Hi all, I have been using Perfect Coat Tender Care Puppy which smells like baby shampoo on my GSP puppy who is 9 1/2 months. The shampoo makes the coat shiny and smooth but it seems like the scent only lasts a day.
Anyone have recommendations on another shampoo?
Thanks |

I've never bathed my dogs ... they get spot cleaned when they roll in something, so not much help here. Why do you want the scent to last? Dogs should smell like, well, dogs, especially an active breed like a GSP. |

Pantene works great. Adams flea and tick works nice, too. |

| Bella really does not ever get a bad doggy smell and she is prone to self grooming like a cat. However we do bathe her about every 6 to 8 weeks, but only because she is averaging needing to be expressed that often (we are hoping that will level off with age). I like our shampoo and I would say the smell lasts a couple of days if we don't go for hard runs on a hot day or for a swim. I want to say it is called something like Black Velvet. It has a pug on the front and is for darker coats and helps with fading. If we go to visit people I will spritz her with a doggie refresher spray when brushing the coat and that works nicely. There are also dry shampoos you can get for spot cleaning, but I actually hate the way what we have smells. |

| Keely regularly conditions her coat by rolling in slobber, fox poo, horse poo, bird poo, rotting animal carcasses, some unrecognisable substances (i'm probably better not knowing what!?!?!) and sometimes even wet dog food. But when i'm feeling brave and strong and like i'm able to handle her when she turns into big crazy black bat flapping around at the end of her leash in the bath i use puppy shampoo by Groomers. I used it on Kintra into adulthood and it does leave a slight baby shampoo smell, but then the wet dog smell (which i prefer anyway) comes back within a couple of hours. |

I came across a dog once who had the most amazing shiny coat. I asked the owner, and she said the secret was Head n Shoulders. LOL. Can you elaborate on why you want the scent to last longer? (I find the scent of shampoo on my own head and hair lasts at most a day.) |

| I use Murphys oil soap...the stuff for hardwood floors...it is all natural and the oils are great for their coat...I think the scent lt for a few days and then if they get caught in the rain you can smell it again...also if you bath too much you wash away their coats natural oils and that is bad.... |

| I also use the Murphys oil soap (the original one) or I use the Halo all natural pet shampoo. They are very similar, but the Halo all natural pet shampoo lathers a bit better. Both have citronella in them which is the scent and it also helps to keep bugs away like fleas, ticks, mesquitos, etc. |

Yes, a dog should smell like a dog... But a dog doesn't have to smell like a dirty dog! There is nothing worse than petting someone's dog and your hands smell absolutely disgusting afterwards. I usually use an oatmeal shampoo but have been currently using Kong brand... it was on sale. I haven't found the scent lasts for more than a day or two at most. |

| I wouldn't use anything with any harsh chemicals that could dry the skin/hurt eyes. We like tropiclean, its supposed to be "all natural" smells decent enough and doesn't seem to dry her out. |

| Murphy's Soap (the original one) is made with all natural products and it is very inexpensive and goes along way because you dilute it. It also smells very nice and the smell lasts as good or better than most pet shampoos. I like it because it does not strip out the natural oils in the dogs coat and that is important when I am showing a dog regularly because they get allot of baths. Just keep in mind that it does not suds up like allot of shampoos do. I also use a rubber bristle brush on my dogs when I bathe them because it loosens dead skin and also helps get the loose hairs out when they are shedding. My dogs love the rubber brush treatment. |

xkatiex11 - i made a discovery this morning which i thought might interest you. You posted about baby shampoo and remaining scent a while ago? We went on a short holiday a month ago and i bought dog wipes from Pets at Home (you've got Petsmart over there? probably a similar type of pet shop) in preparation for wiping all sorts of horrible stuff off Keely while on holiday. I never used them til this morning after she rolled in a bird carcass.
I've been surfing the net all morning absentmindedly sniffing my fingers (ok, that sounds strange ) without realising it was because they smell of baby shampoo. I checked the wipes and sure enough they're baby lotion scented. I also checked another packet from a different manufacturer and they smell the same. Maybe that's a common fragrance picked for those wipes? Might be able to get something similar over there? i know it's not shampoo but they might be useful for when you want your pup to smell nice, or when you need a fix of the baby smell I think Keely's getting worried wondering why i keep following her around sniffing at her! |

| Yes! I have a wonderful shampoo. It's called FreshNClean. It's by Lambert Kay, and can be found at Petco, and also on Amazon.com. It is FANTASTIC! The smell lasts forever. Everyone I have let borrow the shampoo at the dog park ends up buying some. Word of caution. Don't purchase the gallon size more than once! It costs 40.00 after you pay shipping. If you purchase directly from the store, it's 9.99 per bottle, so it's still a good deal. We did the gallon the first time, and then found a supplier on Amazon.com that costs like 3.99 or 5.80 per bottle. We refill using those because the gallon bottle is not completely full when you purchase it, and it is diluted.....very diluted! Don't get me wrong, it still works very well, but if I want to dilute it, I will do so myself! Seriously though, my black lab gets majorly stinky, and that shampoo will keep her smelling fresh for 3 weeks! My GSP's get a bath daily when we go to the park, so I purchased the Fresh N Clean conditioner from Amazon in the gallon size. Same thing......purchase only once, and then find the cheaper refills! This keeps their skin from drying out. It doesn't do anything for their coat, of course! |
