Actually, Cresteds are pretty cool little dogs. Not what I want around my house, but neat little personalities. I'm sure that there are just as many folks who think that GSPs are pretty darned homely too..:)

They do have really strange skin (the hairless ones), kind of rubbery feeling, and definitely sunscreen! Relax and have fun...my furchildren think that my daughter's Affenpinscher is a funny looking little guy too, but he's a dragon and takes good care of himself.

well atleast she isn't dying the parts with hair orange, purple or neon green LOL
but yes it will need sunscreen when it goes outside and lotion applied a few times a week on the hairless parts
to keep the skin in healthy shape

That's next.  Little dudes got a small wardrobe all ready.

GSP is GunSmoke, and my Rotty is Dixie :)

If everyone had GSPs then we wouldn't be unique. Diversity is ok in the dog world too.

Hey--I'm all for diversity!  But man, dogs with hairdos and a wardrobe are too much!

Of course, it could be me.  I was a Tonka Truck kind of girl.

ha.... it is true though... little dogs have quirks all their own.  My chihuahua is one of the most well behavoed dogs I have ever owned and he really is something else.  I love the gsps and always wanted a big dog, but I am so glad I got him when I was first single and in my apt.... he is awsome and it was much better than not having a dog at all!  From now on I will always have at least one big dog and one lap dog... they actually compliment each other nicely (exceot when the big one breaks the other dog's toe )

sometimes opposites can attract hehe lol!

Cute pic Jodi. I am all for small dogs. My family use to raise Rat Terriers. I love big dogs too, especially working dogs. I think they can complement each other well also. I just don't like that specific breed. I'm not sure it's reason enough to leave your girlfriend though.

I had been around those little ankle biters growing up. Pomeranians, chee wowas (incorrect spelling), pugs, yorkies. My fave was a mini CHI. He was smaller than my foot at 10 years old. He'd attack me by grabbing my sock at my ankle. I would slide him across the kitchen vinyl and he would start running as he was still moving backwards. He would play like that with me for quite a while.

Jodi - I don't know about Jackson but all 5 of my GSPs still think they are lap dogs too!

I've never been very fond of small dogs, but I do adore corgis. Of course, corgis are just big dogs with very short legs, so it isn't quite the same. :P :D

Ace that is a funny story!!

I have always been more fond of big dogs...but had small ones growing up...I am such a dog lover I would rather have any kind of dog than no dog at all.  I would have never even owned a chihuahua if I did not live in a studio downtown fresh out of college....but I knew it would be selfish to ge a big dog with my busy single life... but i could not stand being dogless! YOu will probably grow to love that little hairless beast!! just wait!

Jackson def. thinks he is a lap dog!  Chihuahuas are great dogs as long as they are well socialized...  I think they get a bad rep. because people buy them and let them sit in he apt and they get barky and agressive with strangers.  My dog has done all kinds of training and even basic agility and could jump higher than most of the big dogs...  My husband basically had to take my chi in when we became serious.... it took awhile for him to admit it ,but he has a new found appreciation for small dogs.  I will actually catch him "bragging" about the "hamster" he once made fun of. hehe

what cracks me up is the traits that diff breeds pick up from one another.  my chihuahua has been doing goofy things that he would have never done before like chase squirrels ,and chew sticks outside...  and jackson def. thinks he can fit anywhere the chi does.  Jackson is not only a lap dog... he thinks he is 7 lbs.   i caught him trying to walk on the back of the couch like sanchez does. the good thing is he knows how to play gentle when he needs to...which should come in handy when we have children one day!

I grew up with poodles, so I wasn't fond of big dogs until I got Tory for Brad. We do have a Shtitzu that was rescued from a puppy mill. I agree with Jodi about having a big dog and a lap dog, too.  Jodi, how is sanchez healing? Tory thinks he is still small enough to sit on my lap, too.

Gunsmoke,

You need to ask yourself this: If your gf already had this dog when you met her, would you sill have asked her out?

I've said myself especially in pugs that some dogs are soooo ugly they are cute. I just don't see it in the Cresteds though. I'd start running now.

Sanchez is doing well!! no nail...yet., but otherwise he is as good as new! Thanks for asking!

I guess I was lucky.... My fiance had to give his recued  Weimeriner to his parents before I moved in because he kept trying to eat my chihuahua no matter how hard we tried to get them to work together while we were dating.  I guess he is a keeper!!!   I assured him I was dying for a big dog though as soon as I moved in!!

Jodi, I noticed that Kerney & Bailey(GSP's) both try to fit in the places Reggie(Small Dog) can go. It cracks me up! They look at me like what did you do? Why can't we fit there too? Kerney usually manages to fit but Bailey is bigger and has more trouble. Reggie has also started chasing squirells and other things too. He got bit by a copper head a while back. He still has a scar from it.
