Just wondering if anyone is following the Westminster dog show this year.

It kind of looks like all the different pointing breeds are being judged as one. Or is that just how the videos are being put online?

I watched the Plott video. Only 3 entered so everyone won.
The sure do look like Jenny.

I'm watching it on TV. I love all dogs and was happy the Wirehaired came in 2nd. The Irish Setter was gorgeous. Now my favorite of all is the Great Dane named James - I think I want one of those now. :)

Love the dog show at Westminster and watch it every year.  We had to miss some this year because of prior committments.

That Irish Setter was great as was the Wirehaired Pointer, but I so wanted Fifi, the dobe, to get BIS. She was like poetry in motion. Of course, I am biased. ;-)

It is almost like the toy dog breeds are a seperate species. Like a cat, racoon, squirril or deer is a separate species than a dog.

The problem I have with breeds like the Pekingnese is that they are rewarding charcteristics that are detrimental to the health of the dogs ... flat faces cause eye and breathing problems. Someone on another site was saying that a lot of Pekingnese actually trouble "doing the deed" without human intervention. Doesn't say a lot for its long-term survival at this rate, does it?

Everbell, that's exactly how I feel.  Nobody will stand up and say "But the emperor has no clothes!"  So to speak!  Those poor dogs.  Give me a dog that looks like a dog.  (Well, I have two!  )

On another site somebody commeted "How can you not reward a dog that looks like Beyonce's wig?"

Not to mention the Peke couldn't go anywhere without being on an ICE CUSHION!! Couldn't even be on the couch at the Today show without the ice cushion. WOW.

Is the ice cushion something to keep the dog cool so it doesn't start breathing hard?

It's to keep the dog cool because it overheats exerting itself to get air through the teeny tiny smashed in nostrils.

yeah thats what I thought.... dogs have a hard enough time breathing that they have to do special things for it so it can breath....that is horrible to breed dogs like that...I have had a boxer and my friend has a boston... they were not bred so to have such short noses like some of the short nosed breeds are doing... my boxer could run all day and never had trouble breathing... my friends boston can play quiet wildly with my 2 gsps with out and issues... though sometimes he does get hot in the summer and likes to cool down...
