The guy probably just doesn't know how to control his dog-- so keeps him on a leash. I don't really see the harm in it--apart from the guy reaming you out that just seems uncalled for. An 'aggressive' dog being walked on leash is better than it getting abused, neglected, fought, living in a shelter or getting euthanized IMO. I would just steer clear. Yea its unfortunate he's not working harder on it--agreed.

We run joey (off leash) at the city golf course over the winter. 90% of dogs there are off leash (even though I'm pretty sure there's still a leash law). The 10% that are on a leash... I usually just assume there is a reason and avoid.

My first impression when I read this about you mentioning that he has seen you before working off lead with your pup was two things and both in your favor despite the unfavorable outcome: 1. He stayed and stood there because he is attempting to allow his dog to see friendly dogs 2. He trusted you and your dog and your ability to have control over him and felt safe to stay.... But that went South when your pup had his own plans to go greet.

I suspect his outburst was less about you and your dog as it was him and his dog... Displaced wherever it could be which was unfortunately you.

I am lucky to live in outdoor minded community where there are plenty of options for off leash time... Wish I could share it with everyone :)

Michigan does have some issues (economy, jobs, debt), but they are very easy-going with pets (and guns...  another story).  I look forward to every opportunity I have to get out there to visit, which, fortunately, is pretty often - my parents live there.  Very nice place to visit!

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd

smatulewicz -
I agree with you.

Boy, did things ever go south!

Definitely has its issues... Though the beauty of living on the shores of lake superior make you forget sometimes! We in the yoop also sometimes forget we are apart of MI as a whole :)

AH! An ooper-eh!?!? Sorry, then for the confusion! I recommend cessession! Either that, or give Detroit to Canada (sorry for the insult to any Canadians, or Detroit(ians) - It was just an obscure reference to the "Rocky and Bulwinkle show" (Moosyylvania).

Ok. Bad attempt at a funny ;)

just my opinion but... if this guy was affraid/insecure of his dogs actions with other dogs/people and doesn't feel he is able to contro him... why did he ever think about getting a pit??

If there was a LIKE button I'd hit that.
