Pine and cedar mulch are fine. It's cocoa mulch you need to be careful of.

For the same reason chocolate is bad for dogs. Chocolate is made from cocoa and they both contain theobromine which is toxic to dogs.

OK, I was thinking something else - like in the old days Coca Cola had cocaine in it so I was thinking the same with the mulch - last thing this breed needs as they are already spastic!

Yep i've had artificial turf since last august and it holds up just fine with my 2 young GSP's running riot on it.

The erosion mat is biodegradable, seems to be fairly indestructible, and keeps the straw in place. Just make sure you put down plenty of grass seed so when the straw is gone, you aren't back to square one!

I've had to tack some corners back down a few times, but it has held up to Patch's running fairly well. We'll see what happens come spring time.

I think paving the entire yard might be the best solution!
