Yeppers the crossing the leg thing they've all done that!

Remi is a back sleeper just like Winston was *rolls eyes* Diamond was a tummy sleeper, he'd lay with his hips splayed right out or his legs stretched out right behind (like Marmaduke)
Winston had a soap addiction, I had to make sure it was out of reach or he would snitch it and eat it :P...one time I was in the bathroom and noticed the soap in the bottom of the tub, picked it up and saw it had teeth marks in it...obviously he tried to take "just a little bite" and it fell into the tub...probably scared him into obedience ;)

When out for a run Diamond took sheer delight from running full speed within inches of your legs....only there was one time he missed and hit my right in the back of the knees....he popped up and ran off looking quite embarrased :D

I don't think it is totally a GSP thing but yes I admit it mine have all had TERRIBLE gas! Diamond has a nasty little trick of casually walking into the room and doing it and walking casually out again....then we'd smell it "OH Diamond!!"

Diamond also knew when the oil furnace kicked in he just had to go lay under the desk with the register under it.

I'll throw a toy for Remi and he'll walk up to it point it for about 5-8 seconds and then pounce and grab it and bring it back to me! We were actually just doing that.

Diamond and Winston had a little tricky ways of sucking up to you and slowing creep up on the couch at the same time...next thing you knew "hey how'd you get up here!" ,...although if you were Diamond you just waited til everyone was in bed and then snuck on the couch!

One other thing that I didn't mention before was SINGING! Callie will sing (howl) at the drop of a hat, she has learned when we say 'can you sing' in a high pitched voice, she will start to tune up (whine) and then I throw my head back and howl, she will start right up and go till you stop. It is really funny and she has a wild look in her eye when she does it. I will try to get a picture of her doing it.

Diamond, you and others have mentioned terrible gas, that ususally indicates that your dog is sensitive to something in the food, usually soy or corn, it's hard to digest and produces gas. Try a good food without those and it should help. I use Innova food, and Callie never has bad gas.

I also use Innova puppy food and I am about to switch to adult food soon.  I think Jackson had bad gas from his rapid growth spurts.  It has gotten better....I do think treats and the occaisional food snack can make it come back though...and when it does it is DEADLY!

A few more quirks I noticed with Jackson.... He HAS to follow me and sqeak his toy the entire time I am at home alone especially when I am on the phone.  He will not stop sqeaking until you pay attention to him.  This also happens when he still feels frisky and we try to watch a movie.  GSPs are too much!

There is no corn or soy in his food at all..what I find works well is raising there dish off the ground so they don't swallow so much air. As soon as I did this with Winston he was fine...Remi it's a bit trickier cause he likes to take a mouthful of food and go find a special spot to chew on it :D but I have noticed that he hasn't been as bad.

I feed him TLC pet food. http://tlcpetfood.com/ Check it out they offer free to your door delivery with every purchase and they use nothing but human grade meat for the food...no by-products or chemical perservatives. A GSP breeder here in Ontario uses it for all their bitches, dogs, and puppies.

Hunter will actually jump up into our apple trees to get just the right one for him to eat!
My GSPs are excellent mousers. Hunter is great for digging potatoes out of the garden. They all wiggle their butts so fast you'd think they'd pop their hips out!

Where to start?  There are SO many things that Osiris does that are silly... and so many of them are similar to what I've seen others list!  Here is my list for Osiris.

1.  Food

Loves apples, bread, beer, and ICE CREAM!  If anyone in the house has a beer, he is your BEST friend.  He even goes crazy over certain wines. (But we don't give him wine... he just begs for it!)

When he eats, he will take a mouthful out of his bowl, go over to the carpet, drop it all, and eat it piece by piece.  He also loves to blow bubbles in his water bowl.  He likes it to be very full so he can stick his whole snout in, and just blow bubbles.

2.  Toys

He only likes chew bones and stuffed toys.  He will quickly shred open any stuffed toy and throw the stuffing up in the air like confetti.  Then he carries around the "carcass" until we throw it away because we can stand looking at it.  He loves for you to throw his bone for him.  He never brings it back, but he gets really excited when you take it from him and toss it.  He is like Gumby legs flopping after it.

He also likes to play a game we call "blankie."  He has an old fleece blanket that he gets out and romps around with in his mouth.  He likes it when you cover him up totally with it.  The he starts jumping around spinning.

3. Doggie Noises

He only barks when it is extremely important.  He will bark if he has to poop, and it's just one, low bark.  He will bark if my two little cousins are wrestling on the floor.  He feels that he has to calm the pack.  Again, it is usually just one commanding bark.  Other than that, he doesn't bark at all.  He burps.  And he almost always farts when he stretches!

4. Car Rides

Osiris is a car-riding freak!!!  He would go for a car ride any time of the day, any hour.  No matter how rambunctious he is before getting into the car, once inside, he curls up and goes right to sleep.  He is so good in the car.  When it's just me in the car, he likes to sit in the front seat and gaze all lovey-dovey at me.  He only does this with me, but it's so sweet.

5. Random Stuff

He loves my lotions, hair products, perfumes, etc.  He will sit faithfully outside my shower while I am in there, and try to lick my legs when I get out.  He also likes to lick the shower water... eww.  He will try to roll in my towels.  He also likes to stand under me while I put spray-conditioning mist in my hair.  He tries to eat the air as it comes down....  He licks any lotion I put on and he AWALYS smells my hair.

He has my morning routine down probably better than I do.  He "leads" me room to room as I am getting ready, and starts to get excited when I turn the hair dryer on.  He really gets excited when I put pants on.  LOL  Then when he hears me grab my keys and sees me put my purse (or any bag for that matter) over my shoulder, he really gets excited.

He is a very routine-oriented dog.  What is truly amazing is what he does on Saturday nights.  My husband and I are on the ski patrol, and ski every saturday night.  He knows when we start getting on the "swishy" pants (ski pants) to go get in his crate.  We never even told him to do this!!  He knows he can't come, and just goes and waits in his crate.  There is never another time that he gets in his crate, but on Saturday nights when we get dressed for skiing, you can find him waiting in his crate!

He INSISTS on being in the bathroom with me or anyone else that is using the bathroom.  If you don't shut the door all the way, he will kick it open and prance on in.  He just kind of stares at you while you do your business.

He LOVES to go to PetSmart to look at the birdies in the cage.  He just points and trembles with his ears all perked up.  He'd stand there all day looking at them if I let him.

He loves to get out ALL his toys and make a pile.  At Christmas, when we had the tree up, he would bring them all in and pile them under the tree and lay there playing with them.  He also does this while I am trying to clean and also while I am trying to work out to a workout video.  He will first try to jump around with me, and when that doesn't work, he'll stretch out full length on the floor in front of me, then as a last ditch effort, he will get out all his toys and lay them all around my workout area.

He loves to sit with his front paws crosses.  He also lies on his back like a person, legs all spread out.  When he lies down at night in bed, he will circle a few times and then plop down all his weight on you.  He also loves to get under the covers in the mornings.

If you scold him, he turns his head to the side as if to say "I'm not listening!"

He also does that silly thing where he will run top speed around the house after coming in from peeing when it's really cold outside.  He turns so fast sometimes I think he is going to tear a hole in the carpet.  I think we need to get him into fly ball!!

When he is happy or when I come home, he brings a toy to show me and then happily lays down to chew on it.

He is very gentle around children.  He likes to smell their hair.  I think this is how he identifies them.

Isn't it so true that your kids act different at Grandma and Grandpa's??  Same with Osiris.  I have tried to tell them that we would like to keep him on the same routine when he is there, but they spoil him rotten and let him get away with stuff he KNOWS he can't do at home.

My husband works 24 hour shifts at the fire dept. and I work nights in the ER.  So I am sleeping when he comes home with Osiris.  (Osiris goes to my parent's house on our work days)  He busts in the door, runs straight up the stairs, busts into the bedroom, and jumps into bed with me and is sleeping within minutes.  This is his NEVER FAIL routine.  There have been rare occasions that I am not home, and he sulks when he doesn't find me in the bedroom.

Ok, I know that's a lot of stuff.... hopefully you enjoyed my little novel.  It is so neat to see that so many of the silly things he does seems to be GSP stuff.  I love him so much; I can't see us ever owning another breed.

Osiris sounds like a fun dog. Our dog likes the last few drops of beer from a bottle or can. Just a suggestion---since grapes and raisins are fatal to dogs I would be leery of giving them wine.

Too funny! I forgot about the Petsmart one.... Jackson also loves to ride in the car and he LOVES to look at the birds at petsmart too!

This thread has been fun to keep up with! Thanks for all your posts!!  I think we could easily come up with a top ten list of GSP quirks!! SO funny that there are some all share and some that only a few share... wonder if it is in their lines???  It is also great to hear those really unique ones that only that one special GSP does!  I wonder if the ones with similar quirks would get along better if we all met one day!  Sure would be fun to see!!

Just a question...since we really dont see many GSPs  I dont get to notice...but do GSPs seem to like their own breed better??  Chihuahuas do and are known for it.  Sanchez just acts sooo diff when we see a new chi.  He acts like they have been friends forever....I would guess GSPs could be much the same way...

When we've got to meetings of the local pointing dog chapter, Bo definitely seems more interested in the other GSPs, more so than the setters and spaniels ...

Kota is 7 months old now & is such a handful.  Coming to this site helps me realize that there are other full of engery GSP's out there!!  He loves to squeeze into his favorite chair, into all kinds of pretzel configurations.  This of course is usually only after 9pm & an evening full of playing, running, walking, etc.

My techie skills are inadequate otherwise I would have included an amazing picture that we have of him pretzel-like.

One thing Kerney does cracks me up. I know that these dogs make great bird dogs. Kerney tries her best to hunt grasshoppers. She will walk around looking for them and all of a sudden she will stop and point. We can't see what she is pointing at, then all of a sudden grasshoppers fly up and she goes crazy. There is also a small airport near my boyfriends house and anytime a plane flies over Kerney tries to chase it. It is so funny!!

Kota is a master of worm hunting.  Yep, I said worms.  He loves to rub their dead wormy "scent" on his neck like it's perfume.  He thinks it's the greatest thing in the world.

The avatar pic is when he was 5 months old.  He'll be 8 months in a couple of weeks.  We got him from Marion, IL.  He & Jackson are spitting images...his daddy is from the BleuGrass Kennels, I think.

I can't seem to change/update the avatar for some reason

Cooper's Mom,
I didn't know how to put up pics either. Now I use photobucket.com for my pictures. You have to register (it's free) but then you upload the photos to your photobucket page and they give you a HTML code for each one which you just click on it to copy it and then paste into your posts. Hope that helps you with the pics!
