I just heard today VIA E mail, that Raisins are poiseness to dogs. Does anyone know for sure ?  They said onions as well as Macadamia nuts.

Yup grapes and dried grapes (raisins)

Bad, Bad, Bad

We have a vet in our local NAVHDA chapter that just sent all chapter members an email.

He treated a labrador this past week  that had eaten raisins.

Sad end to the story, the labrador did not make it.

grapes/raisins will put your dog into renal failure.

As an ISP tech: if everyone just quit forwarding all the garbage Snopes says isn't true, we'd probably trim our server volume down by a noticable quantity.... not to mention quality...

This is a pretty good website that talks about foods and other ingestibles that are bad for dogs.  It also tells you why the food or other substance is bad for the dog.

http://www.peteducation.com/category_summary.cfm?cls=2&cat=1939

There is an article specific to grapes and raisins.

A friend's GSP died just before Christmas after eating a bag of sultanas. She went into liver failure and was fitting before her organs shut down after two painful days. She and her brother (who luckily did not eat any) were the same age as my oldest GSP and began showing at the same time. The vet said 6oz was enough to be fatal to a GSP sized dog. Very, very sad.
