One very warm afternoon, I had to run to the bank for work and pulled up next to a car and in the passenger seat I spy a GSP pup. I being the dork I am, I get out of my truck and start talking to his pup through the window which was rolled down a few inches, then I notice the owner is sitting in the dirver's seat talking on his cell phone. I was a bit embarassed. The owner got out of the car and we chatted a bit, turns out he bread GSPs and we exchanged business cards. Who knows Tory may be a proud pa-pa one of these days.

just let my girl out the front door of my boyfriend's place to pee for the night. when this little pup comes bounding over to us, i'm thinking its prob just a black lab. its dark out but i notice some patches, i say,"i think this pup is just like you, lace" i was corrected by the proud new owner who says, its a wirehair pointer. so i look closely at the pups face and sure enough lil guy was a gorgeous gwp. never see a gsp in this area, so i thought meeting a wirehair was quite the coincidence. we sat and talked about pups and hunting while they played.

Mydog, my Border Collie did something similar before. I went to pick-up to go food at a Mexican Restaurant and she jumped out and went and sat by the door. She didn't try to come in but sat outside and waited for me to come out. The grocery store is funny. I can't imagine hearing that page come over the intercom. :)

Oh, I almost forgot this one too.

Out walking the dog a few weeks ago I met a man and woman walking a "German Pudelpointer". It looked like a German Wirehair, sort of. After several clarifications I understood it to be its own breed altogether, but they must get tired of explaining it. "No, it's not a cross between a Pointer and a Poodle. No, it is its own breed. Yes, they came from Germany. Yes, I've heard of Labradoodles and other Poodle mixes. No, not a PoodlePointer. You see, in German, Pudel means puddle and the dogs....Oh never mind! Nice lab you have!"

We have a Wirehaired Griffon in the neighbourhood and from a distance I always think he's a GSP. He's a beautiful boy and he and Bo have played together quite often.

I went to a huge street craft fair here in our county  many years ago and spied a gorgeous shorthair hanging out at one of the vendors tables.  I started talking to the woman who owned him, I was very excited.  Now she is one of my best friends and we have shared many doggie adventures together. She still owns one too.

Most people who see shorthairs don't know what breed they are.  I don't think I ever had anyone who guessed right unless they knew bird dogs or had one before.  But they always comment on how beautiful and athletic they are.  Our male we had was really light colored and ticked and lots of people thought he was a coonhound!!

After X-MAS my sister was out visting and we were walking around an outdoor mall. What do I spy across the street was someone walking a GSP. I ditched my sister ran across the street to talk to the people. They were so shocked I knew what it was. We stood there talking for about 15 minutes about dogs while my sister is looking at me like I was crazy.

Most people think our GSP is a dalmation and want to know why did I cut his tail off. Our Pointer has been confused with a pitbull by 3 diferent people - one lady told her child not to get to close because she is one of those bad pitbull dogs - after explaining to her that she is a Pointer she still didn't believe me.

When we took Molly to Petsmart with us a gentlemen wanted to know if she was a "Clown" dog and then proceeded to pull out his wallet and show us pictures of his GSP.

She was bred by a hunter in eastern Colorado. Her mother is Victory Road and her sire is Layborn's Prairie Duke. Rawhides's Clown was her great grandfather on both sides of her pedigree and she also has Stradivarius Baroque on one side. I'll have to pull her papers and see who else is on them. Unfortunately we don't hunt but even at the large dog park she will ignore the other dogs and go hunting.

Here's another one I just remembered.

I walked Ranger to school to pick up the boys. One of the moms asked if he was a Bluetick Coonhound and told me her grandfather had a prizewinning Bluetick that looked a lot like Ranger. I explained what he was and we chatted some more. I asked her what her grandfather's dog was named. "Ranger", she replied. STRANGE!

It seems like in the years that I've had this breed, I now see more and more people with them. I have seen a few that looked quite a bit like mine and when I asked, some of them ended up even being distantly related.
