Has this ever happened to you? We went out for dinner last weekend with some friends we know from church, stopped by their home for a drink, and what kind of dog do you suppose they had????
Of course we had no way of knowing we have the same kinds of dogs beforehand (does that come up much in visiting after church? Maybe it should... .  Their dog even has an "R" name like Ranger; they call him Romeo on account of a heart-shaped patch on his back.
Such a small world, eh? Any other stories about meeting other GSP owners? |

| I saw a lady walking one about 2 miles from my house, my daughter's boss has one from the same guy I got Hunter from, and this past summer I caught up with two tourists from down state MI that had 2 they were walking. Their female was a daughter from the gsp that won at westminster. We talked for hours not even knowing each other. Great way to break the ice so to speak! |

I was in a pet store buying dog food and people kept asking about my puppy. This was after I bought my first GSP. A couple came up and asked how I liked living with a ball of energy. It ended up that they had a GSP. There dog sounded like it was an extremely hyper dog. The husband said that he would run with it, the wife would then take it for a run, and the GSP would be ready for another run shortly after the wife was finished. I still have a lot of people that stop me to ask about my GSP's. They seem to be a great conversation piece. |

I agree with Caly -- everyone loves to talk about these dogs. When we were visiting Burlington, VT, last fall we were taking Bo for a walk to stretch his legs after a long drive. We were waiting at a light to change, when this car pulls over and this young guy sticks his head out to tell us "what a nice-looking dog you have ... what is it?" We told him, he complimented Bo again and sped off . People are constantly stopping us on our walks to ask about him.
When we are out, without Bo, and see a GSP, we always rush over to talk to the owner. We haven't been told to mind our own business yet.
We have 4 other pointers in our neighbourhood, and the owner of two of them is also named Jocelyn. When she started to introduce her husband, I told her if his name was Richard, I was going to be totally freaked out ... he is Robert. |

I've had a couple of coincidental meetings that were a bit eerie - I was in Paris many years ago and ran into a guy who had been in one of my classes when I was a TA an Indiana U. I also ran into a couple of classmates from my undergrad years at Miami U. (Ohio) at a restaurant in Minneapolis many years after we graduated. No GSP's involved, but wierd nevertheless. Makes you wonder how many times you "almost" have a coincidental meeting... Everbell, I lived with my first GSP, Sport, on the north side of Chicago for most of his life and there would be hardly a day go by when I wouldn't have someone comment during our walks on what a handsome dog he was. Few people knew he was a GSP, but he definitely made an impression. I never quite knew what to say other than "Thanks". It's not like I had anything to do with the way he looked... |

I know! It's not even like we picked the litter he came from ... he was available from a reputable breeder and we said YES! I always say "Thanks. But it's really his personality that we like." (Seriously!) |

I was hiking a trail near my house when Daniel came running towards me... or so I thought until I looked a little closer & it was another GSP with similar markings who outweighed Daniel by almost 30 pounds! It was pretty funny, especially since there were only two GSPs that I knew of at the time in the whole town, mine and my grandmother's friends'. It turns out it was theirs, I had never seen him before, just heard about how big he was (over 90 pounds & not a bit of fat onhim). Now there are three and two of them are ine. |

| I just got back from the grocery store & the woman who was doing the checking had a gsp lapel pin on. That sparked some conversation. |

I have had two types of encounters... people who know what Jackson is and want to talk for awhile about the breed and how fun and wonderful they are or the person who has no idea and thinks he is a chocolate lab or weim mix. It makes me mad! He looks nothing like a lab! My mom has a beautiful chocolate lab, but not even close. anyways I guess I can see the weim comment especially since not many people in FL seem to know what a GSP is nonetheless a solid liver. As he gets older though more people stop me and ask me with a perplexed look on their face what kind of dog he is. They say the slick shiny coat is just striking...but they have no idea most times unless they have seen or owned an actual GSP before. Each time I have gone to the dog park I have seen one other GSP, but as I think Florida is not as big of a GSP state as many of the northern/midwestern states. It would be fun to have a big get together and let all our GSPs run wild! |

I have seen a few GSP's in my area. I always walk up and talk to the people about them. I have yet to meet a rude person or bad dog. I think dog and horse people are some of the best around. Jodi, I know what you mean about asking what kind of dog they are. It runs all over me the way some people approach it! I once had someone ask if Kerney was Dalmation mix!! She said she thought that is where she got her spots from. I try to be polite and tell people about the breed. |

People ask me about Spencer all the time, and it does seem that people who own (or have owned) pointers always want to talk to other owners. I've only seen a few in my area. I wanted one in the first place because my partner and I saw one being walked and asked the owner what she was. Love at first sight. One of the only GSPs I've seen locally (and the only solid liver I've seen in person) was today when I was walking Spence. We walked down a street that we haven't been on and this gorgeous old boy came over to the fence. He was the only dog that didn't bark at us on the whole walk! He even tried to squeeze under the fence to come say hello. Made me want another one... |

I meet a lot of people who want to know all about MAx. I recently engaged a professional doggie walker - guess what breed he has? You guessed! He rings me sometimes to tell me how adorable Max is. Turns out he is pure breed GSP not a great dane cross as we though. Well his dog- Reuben, male, is about 8, bigger than Max, and rules the roost. A great experience for young Max who is so exuberant. I have met owners of much older GSPs (all with those lumps many of you have mentioned) who just adore Max. Even funnier, Max loves his own breed, even if they don't love him back!! CLaudia |

"will the owner of a german shorthair pointer please come to customer service to get your dog" Lacey followed me into the grocery store yesterday, i left her in the car while i ran in to pick some things up (quail of all things). She jumped out the window and came into the store through the automatic doors, where she got wrangled by a little check out girl. I was impressed that they knew what she was. Lacey must have thought I needed her help when I told her I was going to get some birdies. |

I'd settle for "is it a Dalmatian?" I had Chelsea out once and somebody asked if she were a pit bull!
When we used to go to the dog park there was a gorgeous young GSP named "Bodie" with a very nice owner. One day I was reading the newspaper and a face in the obituaries looked familiar--it was Bodie's owner, who had died while on a hunting trip! Bodie was included among the "survivors." (Incidentally, when my mom died I listed her "granddogs" too.) |

Don't be too hard on the unititiated. Generally the "Is it a ???" question follows a "What a beautiful dog" statement |
