What is not known by breeders or some may choose to live in denial of the facts -
there are GSPs that were bred to EPs and the genes are carried on down until they meet up. Could be from back in the seventies and eighties or as recenty as present.
There are no hidden genes from the days of yore.
Breeders just don't know what they have - that's the bottom line. No shame in it. No one can know what was kept hidden.

If you read G Byrne's words she says: These may well be perfectly legitimate too.
She herself can not stand behind the breedings.

There is a legitimate German Longhaired Pointer breed that is recognized in Germany, but is not yet recognized by the AKC.  They have been recorded in the Foundation Stock Service since May 2010 and have an established parent club here in the US which tells me they are trying to become a recognized breed by the AKC.  Here is a link:

www.akc.org/breeds/german_longhaired_pointer/

If you look at the pictures off of this page you will notice the resemblance to setters and spaniels, but not wirehairs.

I never said this pup looked like a longhair. I was using this as an example that all GSP's and yes even DK's don't always look like what we think they should. Several times I said the pup looked more like a wirehair.
Francine unless you are 110% sure that there are no recessive unseen genes, I think you should rethink your position or at the very least how you word your posts.

I believe there are no recessive genes of yore when it comes to coat and color.
Can I be wrong - yes.
When I am proven wrong then I will believe otherwise.

You were misleading in your example.
There were no females at the AM whose coat was like a DL.
DK coats can be longer, thicker and "doubled" compared to most GSP coats.
This should not equate to using a DL as an example.

Whatever odd genetic or parental quirk he may possess, your little guy is adorable!

Actually there was a DK with long silky hair at the 2010 annual NADKC meeting in Riverwoods, IL. I saw it from about 2 feet away. I never used a DL as an example, I used a DK that I personally saw that I said had a coat like a DL. If there are no recessive genes in regards to coat and color, how did this dog that I saw, at the NADKC annual meeting, exist. That is the proof that you are asking for.

Don't call me a liar.

Folks, you are hijacking this thread in the discussion about genetics and that is not fair to the OP. I posted the info on the Longhaired Pointer because I thought it was interesting, but not to start a war here with regard to genetics. The OP and their puppy is adorable and it matters not one bit what his parentage is and whether there is a recessive or anything else. He is an adorable pup. So if you guys want to discuss genetics that is cool, but I think it should go to a new thread.

OP enjoy your new puppy and no matter his genetic background he is a great looking puppy and I bet he will be a great hunter for you too. Would love to see more pictures of your new puppy.

A lot of the discussion about canine genetics went straight over my head :)

He was the last of the litter and the only one with the beard so I am guessing that's why he was last. Doesn't bother me, was just curious if it was normal or he had something else mixed in.

Thanks for all the help

Being a lover of ugly dogs ( thats what most folks call bearded dogs ) and owning a really ugly DD I think he's perfectly fine. Don't cut or hunt that hair off it gives em character and he'll loose his ugly dog union card. He'll be loyal true obedient and love forever. Seems like a dog to me ;) Perfect!
