Just a reminder for all dog lovers, that FEB 11 and FEB 12 7pm to 10pm on USA is showing the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I love this dog show as it shows every breed close up with a little narration about the breed being shown. This is Rocky after 3 hours of watching the show

Rocky was chasing his tennis balls alternating with chewing on some bones during that time. Tomorrow the Sporting group will be shown first which will include our GSP's. Remember in 2005 when Carly GSP won the Best in Show? Yes,I did order the DVD of that year and show it regularly on my Dementia Unit where I work and the Residents love it!! The German Shorthaired Pointer wins Best in Show every time!!! The week before the Westminster Dog Show in 2005 I made a promise that if the GSP won Best In Show I would buy the DVD for everyone to enjoy at my work. Could not believe it and was sooo excited when the GSP actually won. And yes I did keep my promise. Well, tonight I orderd this years 132 Westminster Dog show for my Residents no matter who wins Best in Show. They love every dog they see and can pick out and see up close the breed they used to own. So will retire the 129th Westmninster the year the GSP won the Best in Show DVD and will replace it with this years132 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show DVD.

LOL, good story! I am sure they will love the new results!! I did like the beagle, I was pulling for the Irish, but had a feeling the Sealy would win (I think it is the same dog that won the Euk 2 weeks ago), now for the life of me can't remember who won non and herding?

The winner of the non sporting was the Giant Poodle and they said she won last year too. And I think it may be the same poodle that won in EUK. Can't remember who won the terrier group or the herding group. Of couse I was rooting for the Saluki since my best dog freind has 2 of them for the hound group.,but I am happy for my neighbor who owns 3 beagels. She used to own three. Right now you can watch last night Westminster show on USA. They started it 10 am central time and will run till12:30. Also if you want to see every GSP that competed today, go to the Westminster Kennel Club http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/shop/ Click on video then scroll down to Sporting Dogs and you can click on Pointers German Shorthair and see some of our relatives to our GSPs!! Enjoy(:

The STANDARD poodle was the Non-Sporting group winner (no such thing as a Giant poodle, sorry :) ) - that Standard is gorgeous, btw) and winner of Herding was a phenomenal Red Merle Australian Shepherd, a truly nice dog. Shorthairs don't show until 12:45 today (EST), and there's 40 entries, so you are looking at at least 80 minutes if they all show up, probably 2 hrs before things are posted on the Breed Results. GSP judging should be interesting, as the judge is from Australia, Guy Jeavons, so may or may not necessarily be swayed by who is handling the dog. It could be fun to actually have someone look at the end of the lead that the dog possesses.

Thank you Phyliss, I always get the Poodles, Terriors, and Spaniels mixed up. ... I did feel sad last night when they said during the show, the Lab and Golden Retriever have never won The Best in Show and both are in the top 10 list adopted and registered by the AKC in America. Wonder where our GSP's are on that list? GSP's are # 17 on the intelligence list. The Border Collie is number one. That means from what I read about intelligence it takes 5 times to teach a new command to a GSP. And after learning the new command a GSP will only listen to that new command 85% of the time. So who knows how correct that is???

Yup. Getting them to learn something is easy. Getting them want to do it when YOU want them to, that's the challenge :)

Marie,

How sweet for all your residents to watch the dog show! There's something for everybody there and a great source of reminiscing.

I will be setting the VCR tonight to be sure not to miss the Sporting Group. Seems I always turn those dog shows on just after that group!
