This has been an awful year here for fleas and ticks... My dog had a case of fleas and I picked a tick off of him after our romp in the woods last night.  Took him to the vet today and they recommended Certifect.  Wolfgang was on Frontline Plus and we switched to Advantix.  I'm just plain confused with all the claims and nothing seems to be working.

I hear you about the ticks ...since the beginning of this month, I've been pulling about a tick a day off the dogs. We've never used anything on them (never seen a tick on them before this year). But since we are moving in the spring to a house with lots of forest nearby, we will probably have to put them on something then.

I have never heard of Certifect so I had to look it up. It is made by the same people who do Frontline Plus, so I would ask the vet why this would work if Frontline Plus did not work for you. The other product you may want to ask about is Comfortis, but it is only for fleas, but it works really well on fleas. You would still need to use something for ticks, but maybe you could find something that is for ticks only that will work. The nice thing about Comfortis is that it is pill form and not topical. I guess I am lucky because we don't have ticks for the most part, and the fleas aren't bad either. I use Sentinel, but that only kills fleas if they bite the dog and it makes the fleas sterile. You would still need a topical or something if the fleas are really bad, so it probably wouldn't work in your situation.
