Took Doddi into the vet Saturday, she sliced her leg open on something. She had a distemper shot and 3 year rabies as well. They had to put her out to fix the leg. That is about healed. Now we noticed that just behind her shoulders is a lump. I did not notice it there before. I am sure that the shot was given by the neck. Could this be a reaction to the shots? Should I be worried? It is right above the spine. My wife thinks it has gotten bigger but I haven't noticed that.

Any ideas?

Ruger is allergic to his distemper booster & can no longer have it. I would just keep a eye on it. How old is the dog? Ruger got his puppy ones & then his first year one he got a lump 4 inches long x 3 wide, next year it was bigger & the 4 year it got to be a lump on his back that must have been 4-5 inches high, no kidding he looked like a camel, didn't feel good & the swelling went down to his throat. The vet said the next one could kill him. He has no problems with the Rabies, Lyme's or heartworm. You can give them Benadryl 1-3 milligrams for every pound

One of our GSP's gets a lump at the site of the injection.

If you are concerned, call your vet, but I bet that there will be no concern.

It is very common for GSP's to get lumps. They call them lipomas and they are harmless and as the GSP ages lipomas = fatty tumors are common and nothing to get shook over. If the tumor obstructs a vital area then should be removed. Being GSP with short fur we can see every lump a dog develops with aging making us more nervous over them. Just relax and you can always have your Vet do a microscopic aspiration view to determine if the lump is cancer or not. Rocky is siix years old and had has some lumps, but one on his vertebra was hard and my Vet had to examine it under the microscope and told me that is was not cancer, but was a lipoma fatty tumor but because of its location on the vertebra had to check it out in case. Hope this helps relieve some worry over GSP lumps!!

I posted a couple weeks back, regarding the same thing..   The lump was near Beans Injection site. I noticed it a week after her vaccination. One week and it was gone. I did not take her to the Vet, but would have, if I hadn't suspected the Shot was the cause, or had it lasted longer.

Doddi is about 1 1/2 years old. It is right between the shoulders. I had not noticed it before the shots either. I'll just watch it and see. It has only been 9 days. I don't think it's gotten any bigger though. I will try the benadryll.
Thanks, Bill

I did go to the vet once for a fairly large injection site lump from a Lyme vaccine (the first I had witnessed in 6-7 dogs so it scared me).  She said it was nothing to worry about, they show up and get larger up to 10 days after the injection and last 3-5 days before disappearing.  His was gone in a few days.

The lump isn't any bigger but it has moved from above the shoulders to just below them. You can move it from side to side under the skin???
