We have a 2.5 year old female named Izzy. I noticed that Izzy's lymph nodes were swollen on Saturday. My cousin's wife is a vet tech and did a quick exam on her and suggested we see the vet today (all palpable lymph nodes are swollen). We saw the vet today - hoping for a fever to indicate systemic infection, but unfortunately all signs point to lymphoma. She had her biopsy done today and we should have the results by |Friday. I am nervous about what comes next.

They seem to think that we've caught it early since her only symptoms are the swollen lymph nodes and a little wegith loss.

If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate any information you can provide. I am also starting to research holistic treatments.

Is it the lymph nodes by her jaw? I had my weim in to a vet I was trying out a few years ago (she was in for other reasons) and it appeared her lymph nodes by her jaw were very enlarged. The vet immediately started talking lymphoma and of course I freaked out. While she was out for her other procedure, they did a biopsy, and turns out, it was her SALIVARY GLANDS. Needless to say, I was very relieved!!

Hoping it's the same result for you, and sending positive thoughts your way : )

Let me start with wishing you the best outcome for your girl hopefully your results come back with another diagnosis. I am not a vet. However, unfortunately we did have experience with lymphoma in our 10 month old boy last year. My understanding is it will depend on the stage of the disease as to the treatment. In our case he required a blood transfusion (at this time they were not sure of what he had they thought it was hemolytic anemia) during his treatments weekly blood tests were performed to monitor his CBC and medication prednisone and cyclosporine. The side effects from the medications were very draining on his immune system. In the end (two and a half months later)is when his lymph nodes became swollen and he was diagnosed with lymphoma. At this time his immune system was very compromised it was time to let him go. He had gone through so much in the past months we didnt feel it was fair to him to go through anymore. Please keep in mind we did not do a bone marrow test that would have given us a more definitive answer as to what disease he had and at what stage. I am not trying to upset you and please remember all cases are different. Our experience was you will get the vets giving you many cases all with different outcomes. Get good advise from a specialist that deals with this disease and go with your heart and what is best for your girl in the long run. All the best.

Thank you all! It was very disheartening yesterday. They had to sedate Izzy to take the biopsy so when I picked her up she was very groggy and not herself which made it feel that more real. I am feeling much more positive this morning since she is back to her high-energy self! We will take it one day at a time and hope for the best.

Unfortunately it is not just her neck that is swollen, but all palpable lymph nodes (so in her next, thighs, armpits etc.). It does not look promising, but in the meantime we will be positive and will be spending lots of time hunting (Izzy's favourite of course)!!

I wish you luck...I lost a dog from it, she lasted about 4 wks from diagnosis.  She was 11...We started with pred to reduce inflammation, but when it no longer worked it started making the breathing hard...Then it was time to make a hard decision...Hoping it is something else with you, your dog is so young.

We received Izzy's biopsy results today. Unfortunately we are facing a worst case scenario. She has what they call multi-centric lymphoma - meaning it has spread throughout her body. The best case scenario is one more year with our Izzy. We will be starting her on prednazone (not sure how to spell it) tomorrow.

We are trying to stay positive. Since she is so in tune with our emotions we have to stay strong - she does not need to be worrying about us right now that is for sure! There will be many many hunting days in the coming weeks and months and as much play time as we can squeeze in - plus a few treats!

She is our super dog and we can not bear the thought of losing her, but we are thankful for the time we've had and will have with her in the next little while.

So sorry to hear the bad news you received about Izzy. You obviously are going to have a tough road ahead thinking about losing your young, beloved dog. As hard as it may be, try and not focus on the "time" issue and just enjoy one day at a time...as none of us know how long our pets will live. Cherish each and every day you have with her and the memories will be priceless!! Sounds as if you already have plans to do that!

Stay positive and enjoy every minute with Izzy.
