All three of mine are my companions. I'm not a big hunter but I will take them out from time to time to do what they are bred for. I do compete in rally obedience and conformation with two of them. I just fell in love with their temperament and willing to please.

Right now Windsor and Velvet are companions. My husband is working a ton of weekends so not sure how much hunting he'll get in this year. If he were to take a dog it would be Velvet but Windsor is content IN the house - he doesn't like being outside all day. He seems to be allergic to everything. Every time he's out for an entire day, he's all stuffed up, boogers everywhere, sneezing, itching. Vet said allergies but she couldn't pinpoint which kind. He is on grain free. Since Velvet is in heat (almost done), she is out in the pen all day and Windsor is in with my motherinlaw. Ever since (3 weeks), he has not sneezed once, no boogers coming out of his nose or eyes, no ear infections and he's happy. So right now they are companions - she likes being outside more than he does though.

JD was my running partner until he got hurt last year. He set a great pace!

How to handle stress like a dog: if you cant eat it or play with it, then pee on it and walk away

Maybe you can't hunt
but you sure can go thru the motions on the off season

My Lucy came to me as a foster dog. After several attempts at adoption (and my not being satisfied with the applicants), I decided she was staying with me, my dobe and lab/gsd mix. I have really come to appreciate the breed and so glad I made the decision I did. Lucy is a wonderful companion as mom is too old to hunt anymore.

Primarily a pet, but then fell in love with working and showing them.
