It's been a while since I've been able to get on here with the site being down...happy to be back now! Luna has her 1st birthday coming up on October 12th. Just wanted to share some recent picture of our favorite GSP....still thinking of adding a 2nd to the family sometime soon....the breeder is going to try to match up again the same parents for a 2nd litter this coming Spring. Very tempting! Any suggestions for 2 GSP's (pro's, con's, suggestions) would be greatly appreciated!

| I have 4 GSPs and other than the additional cost, they are fantastic together. I actually think 2 are easier than one. |

Just curious about your comment of two are easier then one ? I think often about having two at the same time but know that one is a lot of work . But fun work !

Beautiful! I've just got my second GSP and two are definately easier than one - they keep each other amused! The only downside is training takes double the time - because you can't (in my opinion) train them at the same time, for this I take them out on their own. |

Happy birthday Luna! Another advocate for mutiple GSPs here Bo and Raz don't actually play all that much together, but just having another GSP around for company made a big difference for Bo. And GSPs seem to bond really well with other GSPs. Go figure |

Happy birthday to Luna. She is looking very good.
Yes I think that two are easier than one other than the time for training. I do two types of performance events, agility and obedience. Training for both of these with two dogs takes alot more time. But when we are not training, they do entertain each other. |

Huge advocate of two gsp's. Mine keep each other company, amused, there for back up, reassurance...the list goes on. Hard work at times, training is hard as people have said, but at the same time if your first gsp is fairly well trained then they pick up a lot from them. My second pup learned the whistle commands so much faster because she followed the first in his actions etc. Happy birthday to Luna!! Beautiful GSP. |

| Thanks for everyones great comments! I would get a 2nd GSP in a heartbeat, my husband needs a little more convincing. Have you found any good age difference between having more than 1? With this hopefully upcoming litter, they'd be about 1 1/2 years apart. Luna is doing well on her training, but there's always improvement we're working on. The other concern we have as far as space and exercise requirements for 2...we are currently in a house with a nice fairly big fenced back yard, and Luna gets daily either runs, park visits, swimming, and most always hiking on weekends. When we have our friends over whom bring their Lab mix, Luna and him could play for hours on end, then happily exhausted for the rest of the day. I would love to have some company and a playmate for Luna. |

| We did it a little differently. When Bo was two we approached the breeder who was looking to foster one of her dogs. At the time Shiraz was five and had two litters. The breeder wanted to do one more and then retire her. So we fostered her until her last litter, and she became ours' after. It was awesome adding a mature dog, since there was no puppy training. Plus, we knew her personality and knew right away if she and Bo would hit it off (they did!). Since there are soooo many rescues out there, who have been surrendered through no fault of their's, maybe this would be the way to go? |

| My four range in age from 8 YO, 6 YO, 3 YO, and 1 YO. They all get along well (3 females and 1 male). My 8 and 6 YOs are about a year and a half apart and they are best friends. My 1 YO also worships my 8 YO, avoids my 6 YO (that is her mother and mom makes her mind), and thinks my 3 YO male (her Uncle Ringo) is the best Uncle a girl could have for playing and getting into trouble. The only time I have had any challenges with the pecking order is whenever I have introduced a new shorthair to the pack. So when I got my 3 YO male, my 6 YO female challenged my 8 YO female as alpha. With the puppy, not so much because she came from a litter I bred and raised. With shorthairs I do not think the age differences matter all that much. |

Bentley was 1 1/2 when Keira was born so that's the same age difference as Luna and a possible new pup and I'm fairly certain that Shelley's pups Hogan and Rosa are about the same age difference too. It works well for us as Bentley is still puppyish enough to play with Keira all the time, but old enough to calm her down and tell her off when it's chill out time too. Rescue is also a good way to go |

| I think that is a nice age difference...the older one should have a good handle on basic commands by then and of course has been potty trained for quite awhile and is also of an age where you could have it spayed or neutered is you want...I love having 2 because they do entertain each other and they are a dog that loves to be in a group so I think they like having another dog there when we are gone...I wouldn't say training is hard, but maybe takes more time because you do one at a time...though when they get much more advanced you can do stuff with both at the same time and then they really need to learn there name for the command... |
