This winter we'd like to invest in a good winter coat for Atlas.  The temps around here can get pretty cold  (about -40 celsius) so we want to be prepared for the weather when it finally gets here.  I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good *warm* coat, and where to buy it?  Thanks so much!

We have bought RC pets coats for the dogs and are very happy with them. Also check out Ruffwear and Chillydogs.

We run the guys as much as possible on snow in the winter, but if Atlas needs to walk on pavement a lot, you might want to look into boots as well.

We slather bag balm on their paws as soon as the temps dip below 0C consistently to keep their paws from cracking and to help mitigate salt damage. Altho, do they even use salt in TB or just gravel?

we don't have anything close to your climate but I love the Ruffwear coats - Bugsy has the cloudchaser or something and it is great quality
REI and Sierra Trading Post among others often run deals

I have used the dog blankets from Schneiders saddlery for years; they are inexpensive, waterproof, warm, and come in a few cool colors.

We have the ruff wear cloud chaser and she absolutely loves it! From the first day we put it on her, it's as if she didn't even pay attention that she had something new on. She went on with her normal outdoor fun, yet being nice and toasty warm. We also have a ruff wear climate changer (fleece) which we have yet to try out, but I have a feeling she'll love it too. Ruffwear seems to make jackets that are fit perfect for the GSP as they fully cover their underside which is what I feel gets cold the most. http://www.ruffwear.com/dog_coats good luck!

Thanks guys for the suggestions! I've looked at the Chilldogs website, but I'm going to check out ruffwear and schneiders. I'll have to post a pic once we decide on a coat for him. As for the boots...we'll have to play that one by ear. The dogs don't get on the pavement too much (our walks are usually on snow-shoes) but since we do have salt on our roads in the winter, I'll have to be careful and watched for cracked pads. If he starts lifting his feet a lot we might invest in some boots :)

This is the coat we got for Bo ...

Razzie's is the same coat, but the pattern isn't online (it's grey with black and red x's and o's all over it ).

Chillydogs are awesome but pricey -- so I don't blame you for looking around. However, they do fit GSPs really nicely.

Since Bo won't wear boots, and Raz is too impatient, when hubs runs them in the winter, I have a warm pot of water waiting when they get home so they can rinse their paws. Then, like I said previously, bag balm for any cracks.

Ruff Wear! Remz got a cloud chaser last winter and he absolutely loves him. Fits him perfectly too, not a lot of fabric to get bunched up and uncomfortable. It also helps keep him dry.

I fear that we may need a bigger jacket for this witner though. :/

In an aside is anyone interested in a DockDogs Sky Pilot neoprene vest? I have an XL but it doesn't fit the Beast's chest. I would think that it would fit a larger GSP perhaps 34-36" chest. it doesn't have a chest guide with it but I tried it on the Beast whose chest is 41" and definitely a no go LOL
Message me if you might be interested

We ordered this winter Jacket from LL Bean. Very easy to put on with just 2 velcro straps. Kept Rocky toasty warm on our walks in snowy Wisconsin

As far as boots go, we have tried several different kinds and the best by far have been NeoPaws. Nova would just destroy every kind we bought for her until I found these. They are made similar to human shoes in that they have left and right booties and they sell them in pairs, so you can get different sizes for the fronts and backs (front feet are usually smaller than back feet). Kinda hard to get on at first, but once you figure it out it's no problem at all. If you look into it, I would recommend getting the boot covers to keep deep snow out. They are in Canada too!
