I'm just curious to as how much do other GSPs sleep?

Does your GSP dream?

Casey seems to sleep about 10-12 hours a day, from about about around 9-10 pm to about 7-8 in the morning, sometimes it seems like more if he does a nap in the afternoon. He also dreams everynight, as shown from his muffled barking in his sleep and his feet moving. Is this the norm?

Bearoff tends to get a lot of short cat naps. His longest stretch is when I sleep - from about 2 am or 3 am until about 7 am. He normally wakes me up around 7 am wanting to go out and pee. Then we go back to bed until about 8:30 am or 9:00 am when Jenny comes in and paws me to give them breakfast. However, Bearoff is normally bugging me for breakfast before Jenny comes in. He naps with me in the afternoon and then normally sleeps in the evening and early night (10:00 pm to 3:00 pm) but gets up often to get biscuits or trade sleeping places with Jenny. They normally won't sleep in the same room together.

My sleep schedule is probably their problem.

As for dreaming, I don't notice Bearoff dreaming. Jenny dreams all the time though. I love watching her feet twitch and the little woofs she does.

Sorry but I do not remeber how old your dog is. My GSP just turned 1 year old and she sleeps all night long (9:30-5:30), about 8hrs then gets up to potty. Sometimes she comes back in and sleeps a few more hours, other times she wants to run and then naps throughout the day. So total hours is approximately 10-12 hours. Sometimes she just wants to keep going, but I make her come up on the deck and take periodic rest breaks!

I will be curious how her sleeping pattern changes since days are getting darker earlier. She was so young last fall...and slept all the time as a pup so not sure if she will sleep more.
As for dreaming, I do not notice my GSP dreaming on a nightly basis like she did when she was younger.

Mine go to bed around 9-10pm when the kids go to bed cuz they sleep with the kids and then they wake up at 6am sometimes if it is a day where we don't need to get up I can get them to sleep in till 6:30am....most evenings when we sit down to watch TV the dogs will finally lay down and sleep so that is around 7:30-8:00pm....Blitz will nap during the day but not Striker...Blitz dreams alot!

Lucy pretty much follows my schedule. I'm usually in bed by 9pm, and we sleep till 6-6:30am. Everyone out to pee, breakfast about 7:15am, then out again.

I usually check computer sites about 7:30am for about an hour or a little longer. When I'm doing that Lucy usually goes in the spare bedroom and naps on the bed, while my other 2 stay in the computer room with me. As soon as they hear the bling of me shutting down, everyone is up and running. Lucy heads for the patio door to go out in the yard and stalk chippies/squirrels, etc. They are all pretty much in and out all day till we get into evening, and it all starts over.

Lucy, seldom dreams, but she had something going on last night as she was barking telling someone or something off for several minutes before I finally called her name and she stopped. ;-)

Dax seems to like to sleep. He'll go to bed on his own around 10 or 11 if Im not in bed already. He sleeps until I get up in the morning around 7, and then eats breakfast, and sometimes after breakfast if theres nothing exciting going on or if its a day right after a long run/hike/swim he'll go back to bed for anther hour or two before really waking up. If I have him out of his crate he needs to sleep under the covers.

Bugsy dreams a lot!! Pretty much whenever he sleeps you'll see his legs going and muzzle twitching LOL
He usually crashes in the evening @ 8-ish and some nights we wake him to go out for a final business sometimes we don't. One of us is up anytime after about 5:30 with most mornings beginning between 6-6:30. He is a morning dog so starts each day flying around ready to go and antsy for his morning walk/run/bike/hike/swim/hunt or whatever activity I choose.
I work from home so he knows to settle by 10am and usually has a short nap. Then he is awake the rest of the day. We do a training or play session in the evening when it cools down a bit and then he settles again.
He used to crash by 7:30 pm and you couldn't wake him to make him go out,
he can easily hold his bladder for 12 hrs so we let him do what he likes.

a couple of times he has howled in his sleep which scared the poop out of DH and I :)

It's Bugsy's world...

I should add that mine know when it is time to get up from TV watching and it is time and to go out for the last potty break before bed too...the thing that clues them in to it is when my boys go brush their teeth (we have electric toothbrushes) so when the dogs hear that they go to the door to be let out and when they come back in they run to the bedroom the go night-night in and get in bed...

Windsor is a dreamer and does the little barks in his sleep and twitches sometimes. Velvet is quiet. They both are now sleeping at 9 after I let them out to do business or they are just lounging around quietly until 11 to do one last pee check and then I go to bed. Then Windsor goes into his "house" and then Velvet comes in and kicks him out of it and he ends up sleeping next to her outside of the open crate. We have another crate next to the "house" but neither dog will go in it. Then when hubby gets home they get up to say Hi to him and then all back to bed again. Hubby says they sleep a lot in the morning after I leave for work and then he's up and plays and walks them. Then I come home and play and walk them and sleep time again before we know it. I used to let them both sleep in bed with me but Windsor started growling at Velvet jumping up on the bed and then at Hubby when he tried to go to bed so we don't do that anymore.

The trend I've noticed with Atlas, our 13 month GSP, is that as soon as the sun goes down, so does he :) So now that the days are getting shorter, and it starts getting dark around 8 or 9, he literally shuts it down before me and my husband do! He'll lwalk into our bedroom and lay down on his bed, waiting for us to join him, and if we don't, then he'll usually come and sleep in the living room or wherever we are. It's pretty funny. I don't know what he's going to do this winter when the sun is down by 6pm!

Man, I wish Bo would shut down when it starts getting dark. :) With cooler weather on the way, he seems to want to stay up later and later!

This is the routine for ours':

Crated overnight (21:00 to 04:30)
Out and about (04:30 to 07:00)
Crated (07:00 to 16:00) this is only twice a week when hubby has to go into work. When we are home the dogs pretty much sleep wherever for this entire time, broken up by small bits of energy, barking, etc.
Out and about (16:00 to 21:00) This is when Bo is more active. Shiraz is a much calmer dog inside and is ready for snuggles by 19:00.

My 4 are all different. They all sleep through the night from when I go to bed until around 7 AM when I get up and feed them. They then go out for the day. My oldest girl takes lots of sun baths during the day and naps, but she is my early to bed and early to rise girl. My boy is very active in the morning when it is cool then heads to the kennel for a long nap during the heat of the day, then up in the evening until bed time. My two youngest girls (mother and daughter) are night owls and would be perfectly happy if I left them out all night hunting critters. Those two pretty much sleep all day in the kennel so they are ready for the night hunt. They all dream from time to time, usually when they are the most tired.

Gunner gets up at 5 or a bit before every morning for his potty break and then sleeps (I'd think?) until I get home from work... He's up and playing until about 8pm when he gets crazy tired freak mode and is insane, then he will put himself to bed around 9pm and sleep until 5am.

Weekends, he's up with me at 5 and will take a mid morning nap and then an afternoon nap that can last a few hours. :)

Wow i guess i'm pretty lucky. Roo is definitely more chilled than Dex, but they both are asleep by about 7.30 every evening (they no longer are crated and have their own sofa in the kitchen!) and sleep through until 7am when it's breakfast time. Then given half a chance they sleep until 11 or 12ish, especially if i'm out and my husband is playing xbox in the spare bedroom, they just snuggle under the duvet. So really they're only awake for the afternoon! But boy when they're awake are they awake!

It is something how these dog's are so similar in the things they do and the way they react to different situations. So many of these threads you can tell that people may say " my pup does that also" .

Thank you everyone for the feedback, how interesting!

Roo's and Dex's pic is awesome, it does really look like they enjoy their sleep.
