Everbell and Patty you are right on about GSP's keeping us fit. Rocky has been spectacular for my figure.  I used to be 5'6" in the 180s weight, went down gradually in weight in the Rocky walk ball toss program to the 140s lbs. Rocky makes sure we go out and walk toss balls, toss dummies, throw frezbees ect at least an hour everyday.  And for the 5 years we have lived with Rocky I have kept the pounds off. Have not gained them back as there is no going off the GSP Rocky program!!!   If I say "no I am not going out today, it is too cold or I am not feeling well", Rocky jumps in my lap licks my face and says in his canine body language" come on LETS GO  The key for this GSP weight loss get fit program to work is you have to live with your GSP in house and no kennels or crates to keep them away from you not getting in your face. And your GSP needs to be the HIGH ENERGY kind, not the low energy GSP

What?  You mean you can use crates for something besides bedtime??????

Take a trip to the mall. Look at people in your own age group/sex.  We are slammin!

Patty sorry I offended the mall walkers no matter what age Just want to simply say a dog that lives with you in the house will encourage you to go outside and get active than if you have your dog living outside in a kennel or is on a chain by a dog house. Rocky is a special dog that I adopted from GSP Rescue and I did sign a contract upon his adoption. Rocky is not allowed to live in a kennel. He must live in the house with me. If Rocky runs away, he is special microchipped and will go back to the Rescue and I would lose him. Being that, Rocky has been great for me personally as I have to walk him, Toss balls ect . I have no self discipline  on my own to walk in a mall, or go to a health club (those people don't even need a dog for exercise) So hats off to the mall walkers and health club exercisers I admire you and please you don't need an exercise therapy dog like I do.  And I am sooo greatful Rocky has made my  family Doctor proud that I am one of her healthy patients with no cardiac, diabetes, high blood pressure issues and have shown needed weight loss in the 5 years I have lived with Rocky. So for me personally, I need a high energy, in your face house dog  to get moving  living directly with me. Our closest Mall is 50 miles away so people in our area have to winter walk other places like inside our schools after hours or use tread mills. Rocky and I have been walking in 2 feet snow drift fields, me with high boots on. I am thinking of getting snow shoes

This is Miss Terra, me(John) and Mr Sunshine sitting on the steps at our house in Charlotte.
Disclaimer: Both are rescued from Animal Control. Terra may not be full GSP, or any GSP for that matter. But she sure looks like a lot of other GSP's I've seen pictures of here. Not to be confused with another liver GSP named Terra on this board.

Here they are on 5/11/07 at the farm. Go to www.hickoryspurfarm.com to see their kingdom.

John (human), Bearoff (gsp), Jenny (Plott), Sunshine (Heinz57 rip 11/4/2010), Terra (missing but still in my heart)

Miss Terra and Mr Sunshine are beautiful dogs and Moon's spirit is certainly deep alive in their hearts as well as yours!! After visiting your web site and seeing Moon's page from puppy to almost stepping over the Rainbow Bridge where all the animals are young again and can romp and play brought a tear to my eyes. Thank you for sharing as it means alot !!!

This was SUCH a great idea!  I'm the same way--when I read enough posts, I begin to imagine a face that matches the poster's personality.  It really is nice to put the right face to a name.  :)

Here's a picture of my husband Cliff and I.

And these are our kiddos...  Our twins, Noah (left) and Sam (right)--and their little brother, Liam (center).  They are the world's sweetest kids and have been dog lovers from the time they could crawl.  We're very lucky.

Thanks for starting this tread, Beans!

Sarah

When my boys see a kissing scene in a movie, they cover their eyes and repeat "Go to my happy place, go to my happy place" over and over.  I'm really glad that they have girls who are friends, but no girlfriends.  As a mom, I'm quite happy to support the "girl germ" theory for some time...  :)
