I'm going to make an order from Lion Country Supply and I want to get Remi a couple of new collars.

I am getting one of the day glo Orange collars with the personalized name plate. I'm trying to decide what would be best to put on there. 4 lines to use....I was thinking:

REMI

WEBSTER, WI

MY CELL xxx-xxx-xxxx

JIM CELL xxx-xxx-xxxx

Or should I put our full address and skip one of our cell numbers? Chances are, DH will be the one hunting him so heaven forbid he got lost, DH would be the one searching for him, and he would have his cell on him...but obviously service might be spotty. So I'm thinking my cell for sure...that way if I'm home they can at least get a hold of me and I can get a hold of DH or somene hunting with DH. And I'm not quite sure if I should put our full address for theft purposes. You hear of all kinds of theives now stealing dogs to make a profit in this tough economy.

So what do you guys use? I am also looking into getting him a leather collar, amazed at their pricing.

I put

Reward
City
Cell phone
Home phone

I leave off the name, because that makes it easier for someone to steal the dog if they know the name. I put reward because sometimes people will call if they think they will get money. I put my cell and home and the city so if he is lost out of town folks will know he is not from there.

The key is to put info that will encourage someone to try to find you if they find the dog.

I don't put the dogs names on the collars either for that very same reason.

Mine have

I have a micro-chip
I am vaccinated
My phone number

In English on one side and in czech on the other.

It was the vet that told me to put about the vaccination as if the dog is aggressive and bites, people can be assured that they don't have rabies etc.

Exactly what Belle does for the exact same reasons. I do like the microchip and Vacc info ideas.

Reward & phone number. (ONLY)
Be descrete don't flash the collar because people might want to steal him/her for reward money.

Never use a name because then the crook's get it when they steal him/her

Thanks guys, I have heard that too...not to use the name. Not sure why I spaced it this time but glad I asked before I order!!

I like that idea about the reward, some insentive to actually return him. Because lord knows my boy is sweet and he'd make anyone a good companion!!

Some boarding facilities do require the dogs name on the collar. So when I bought my hunting collars with the name plate I order two each. One collar has Reward and phone numbers. The other collar is their boarding collar and it does have name, address and phone numbers. That way I have all the bases covered. Or course my gang also has fancy dress collars, obedience training collars, show collars, etc. The also have leashes for every occasion too.

Same as Bev (Texas Belle), except that I added a second tag with "This dog is microchipped. For information please call (and the 800 number for Home Again)". Its just a little more security. Dog's name is NOT on there.

Lost one while hunting at the end of last season. While out searching got a call on my cell, she had showed up at a farm neighboring the conservation area.
