Blitz got a red ribbon and a score of 188 in beginner obedience today...his sits were very stubborn and the long sit stay he had to have a correction cuz he thought laying down to smell the ground was a good idea...I have an issue with the judging, the girl that won it her dog got up in the 3 minute down stay but she got him down right away and the judge might not have seen it cuz another dog got up and the judge walked over to dismiss that girl because her dog wouldn't go back into a down....there was no ring steward I think the judge should not have walked up to that girl she should have stayed where she could watch everything someone else should have dismissed her...however even with the dog right next to Blitz not laying down and getting up he stayed down...

Such is life in the show ring, whether obedience or other. The judges often miss things and well we just learn to live with it. A 188 is a very respectable score in obedience. Did you look to see where he lost his points? That will tell you what you need to work on for the next show. Congratulations on a very nice score and a placement. Do not be mad at someone else, be very proud of Blitz as he did a nice job.

Congrats to Blitz!  Yes in the competition ring sometimes they miss something that someone should get called on . . . it is not pefect.  I think it all evens out in the end.

I am not mad at the other girl cuz if her dog had not gotten up at the down stay she would of had a perfect score....I think that is why the judge thought she could stop watching her to remove the other girl....however I know some other kids were a bit upset she still won...more the judges fault and through showing horses I know it is what the judge sees, not what happens...I thought Blitz did very good especially when the other dogs are little dog or herding dogs (which herding dog tend to be very obedient)...it is funny cuz the lab and GSP, the hunting dogs got the lowest places...the lab was the one that had to leave cuz he wouldn't down stay...
all I know is the score is out of 200 but we didn't get the judge sheet to be able to see any marks which would have been nice, though I kinda know what Blitz needs work on...he did his walk really well however it wasn't much of a loose leash like the other dogs in the class did and then his sits were so stubborn....his finish needs work too, however for Quenten and Blitz he did amazing...If I was doing it I know Blitz would have done much better, but I am proud of Quenten for how well he did...I also think he and Blitz are the youngest combination in the class...

Here you can see the lab not going down and right next to Blitz too...the boston terrier is our friend

This was the entire class: the girl squatting down by her dog is the winner (the one the broke the down but the judge didn't see), the boxer got second (she is very good with him, he is 1 1/2 yrs old but she is in high school), the 2 other herding dogs and bt got blue ribbons, Blitz and the lab got red ribbons

It's tough enough for some adults to move on about such things - some kids really don't understand, but it's a good life lesson for them.

Life isn't fair
Good things happen to bad people (as in a recent court case), and bad things happen to good people

Well I think I am more disappointed in the judging than my son he has absolutely no competitive edge what so ever, he could careless what ribbon he got, lol! However the girl that won she also won the showmanship class and her sister was also in that class and this class and her sister was crying about it saying if you don't win it isn't fun....
I have shown enough to know that you can't go off of what you see in the class it is what the judge sees and the judge didn't see it so I totally understand why it was placed like that, I didn't complain while there or anything or say anything to the kids about it (I know better than that)...I just wish that the judge didn't have to step away and miss that mistake by the girl's dog cuz it is kind of a big one....
I wish Blitz didn't break his sit and was better and not so stubborn about them in his pattern cuz then he would have gotten a blue ribbon I think....he does so good at home and at the parks, but for whatever reason he gets to dog class and he acts like he knows nothing, he did the same thing last year...

Marcia - You just need to work Blitz in even more places so Blitz knows that he has to do what he is asked everywhere. Dogs have a hard time understanding that they have to do what you ask everywhere. So in your situation Blitz knows the rules of the game at dog parks and your home, but he does not yet understand that the rules apply everywhere. So, broaden your training locations. This is a very common problem and is actually easy to fix.

I can't think of more places to go...we do family and friends houses and he does so well, even off leash...however something about dogs class....it isn't just me cuz he listens to the kids at other places too...and it isn't like he doesn't listen at dog class he just becomes slow, like he doesn't like it or he is bored with it...

Sounds like doggie rebellion to me
I think Blitz has about the same competitive nature as your son
And I mean that in a good way
Not everyone is out to win - some people just like to participate - like me

you might have nailed it on the head...my son picked Blitz out of the litter and they have so many of the same characteristics if a dog and human can have similar ones...so maybe he is just playing off Quenten....

So, how does your son behave in class? Notice any difference in him. I would be willing to bet that your son may be a bit more tentative or nervous in class around those other handlers and dogs. If he is, then I am betting Blitz is responding to him. Your feelings travel through the leash to the dog. I have seen it time and time again in competition and have been a victim of it myself. Just some food for thought.

Quenten is very shy so I think some of it does go into Blitz...though Quenten is also very confident....he spoke up up very good in the class, but I bet he was still a bit nervous or not comfortable and that must be what does it to Blitz....
