My pup has a dark blemish on the back of his rear testical about the size of a quarter.  We noticed it late in the winter.  It was a very cold winter here in Vermont and i thought he may have gotten frost bit, since he was always outside.  I have a vet appointment for next week so hopefully they can shed some light on what it is... or that it is nothing.  once concern that i have, is that it could be skin cancer or something terrible like that.  has anyone else seen anything like that?

No advice, just want to send good vibes your way.

How old is your pup? Is it possible that its just a mole or birth mark? Is it raised?

It is good to get it checked out to be on the safe side....it may have always been there or maybe it just popped up now....with the markings on these dogs it could just be skin pigment....but a vet check is a good idea...

Dunkan is 1 year and a little over a month.  I don't think it is a mole... but perhaps it could be.  it is not raised.  just dark and wrinkly.  this winter it got darker and more pronounced when he was out in the cold... so i'm hoping it was just a little frost bite from one of our 10-20 degree below zero days.   We tried to keep him in during those days, but he loves to be out side!

Thanks for the good vibes!

Prayers and positive thought that it is nothing serious. Please let us know what the vet has to say.

My guess would be normal pigmentation. One of the things that happens with these dogs is as they get older the darker pigmented areas on their skin continue to darken. Normally we see that as their coat darkening, but it is also their skin. He is at the right age for the pigmentation to be really darkening up. Hope that is what it is, but it is always good to get a vet to check too.

Ok... i'm a little late reporting back, but i've been away for a little over a week. Dukan got his check up. he is perfectly healthy. the blemish in his testical was just a little bit of frost bite from this past winter... and it is ok! PHEW!

That's interesting to hear, my pup has one of these too. Would you be able to post a pic of yours if you get a chance so i can see how bad it is in comparison?

My dog is the same age as your and she has blemishes on her belly area too.  They seem to come and go.  The vet said they are normal and not to worry.  They are always there, but get lighter than darker.  Worried us at first, too, but not anymore.

I'll see what i can do.  i should be able to post a pic.  it sort of looks a chaffed prune.. lol ... sort of wierd.  the vet also said since he has such short hari i'll probably notice more markings on him as he ages.
