here is a link to my facebook pictures of the show clothes I am considering...thoughts? are they even ok?

This is so different from showing horses...english is easy breeches and jacket...western as glitzy and showy as possible as long as you don't clash with your horse...

my understanding is I should blend in and not stand out as glitzy for the dog show...right or wrong?  I can come up with an all sequin show jacket, lol!

I would go with #2 - I think #1 is too busy of a skirt. Good luck!!! Wish I was going, but I graduate on the 7th. Hopefully will make it next year in Phoenix.

I was worried number 1 was too busy...maybe I could do the green jacket with the brown or black skirt...I am entered in 3 classes...I think 2 are the same day and 1 is another day....

Congrats on the graduation! We are hoping to be able to go and watch in Phoenix not sure I will continue showing...undecided on it all...

Is this NSS a show?

I apologize if this is offensive.
I think you should wear something a bit more sexy.
All the outfits are great - if you want to get your kid in a prep school.
You want to win.
I know, I know....
but let's face it - people who look good (sexy)often place higher (in life)than those who don't. I am assuming your pup is as good as the next. best way to break a tie is to be,well, sexier than the other.

This sounds soooo bad!
No one shoot me.
Please.

Not offended at all, I like what you are saying...

actually I was worried the black skirt was too sexy, but the picture doesn't give it justice....I have added my plum jacket...it isn't a button up it has one tie then I have to wear some kind of shit under it, not a blouse but like a fancy tank top or sleeveless shirt...I really love that jacket!

I have never done the dog show stuff and on TV it is very boring attire (not to hurt anyone's feelings) but compared to what people show horses in in it is...

It is for NSS....

I would think the color scheme would depend on the color of the dog you are handling and how good the top line is.  If top line is good then pick colors that highlight the dogs colors.  If dog is dark because of large liver patches or solid color then pick light colored clothes for back ground.  If dog is light colored then pick dark colored clothes. If top line is not the best then pick colors that help disguise.  That is, dark dog dark clothes, light color dog light color clothes.  Now if the dog you are handling is so far from the standard your chances are worse than a snowball in Hell and the judge is a male who is not 10 minutes from the morgue, then I suggest you go for the distraction ploy and wear 4 inch heels with that outfit.

I like the new outfit too. If you go to the GSPCA website, you can look at the winners from past years and see what people typically wear. I would say that usually they are slightly more dressed up than at a regular dog show, but not always. The most important thing is that you are comfortable in what you are wearing and, for me, that whatever I am wearing has pockets!! I have never been one to be able to have my bait in my arm band. The fact is, the judge should be more focused on your dog that what you are wearing. Just don't wear any flowy skirts that would interfere with the dog's movement or that would be distracting to the judge. Hope that helps!

Hair worn up or down clips or curled , Try things out and practice with your dog and see what works for you as a team JUST HAVE FUN AND TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS .DONT FORGET TO SHOP (BEEN FAR EAST)

Ken is correct, wear colors that show off your dog. Many do dress quite "glitzy" for the NSS, wear what you want & what you are comfy in, if you want to dress up a lot, DO IT, it's the NSS!!!! Have fun with it!! (I dress down, I stand out enough already, LOL!!)

I am showing Striker he is roan...I have no idea on any confirmation or what is his best feature...I don't expect to win really since I have no idea what I am doing...I am sure once Phyllis his breeder sees him she will give me tons of much needed pointers...I am really doing it for fun...I am leaning towards the plum jacket, but we will see and I have 2 days so I could do 2 outfits, LOL!

I'll have to see if I can find the pictures of past winner on the site...

I was chuckling as I read this thread.  So my position is I don't give a rats about what others think.  I dress for my dog and that means 1) I have to be comfortable so that means slacks, 2) the color shows off my dog so I usually do something with red or bright blue or purple, 3) my slacks have to be black as both Halo and her daughter are so dark brown I do not want them mistaken for black and they can be depending on the lighting, 4) with Halo I had to have pockets, but not so much with Fauna as she doesn't glue her eyes tot he bait (so I can carry it, put it in my mouth or on my arm band.  I also think it is cool to dress appropriate for the breed and these are Gun Dogs so I wear suits that pick up on the hunting them, mostly Ralph Lauren stuff.  As for shoes simple black flats with rubber soles that don't slip, but are comfortable.

This year I will have to go from show ring to obedience ring which makes this even more interesting.

My personal advice is wear what you are comfortable in because if you are uncomfortable you dog will know it.  Other than that, wear what you want to wear.  I have yet to see the cloths really make a difference to the judges.  After all they should only be looking at the judge.  So the only other thing I will add is make sure that what you wear does not make the judge look at you and forget your dog.

So this is probably a don't:

I have black (dark) and gray (light) pants and skirt...that way once Phyllis sees how well I stack or don't stack I will then know if I should try and hide topline or not....his topline is lighter and he gets darker as you go down...since I am a newbie I am leaning towards the gray to hide my mistakes...not Stirker's mistakes, LOL!

Okay, Marcia. I'm reading. Let me go look at the other pix but if I were you I would stay away from black skirts...they show hair much worse than brown or gray. Not sure of the level of Striker's ticking, quite often skirts with pattern conflict with the dog too much and the dog gets lost. (You don't want that to happen). Til I look at the other outfits I would say the one that I see looks just fine for one of the three days....yes, three. He's entered in Futurity, Sweeps and in the classes so that is Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Two female judges for Sweeps and Futurity and a male judge for the class competition. Honestly, the regular class judge won't care what you have on...as long as it is neat and feminine. He probably would love the glitzy purple jacket too, so why not??? :)

Let me go back and I'll send you a note later. Still have to go walk the other dogs and feed everyone...it is just a weeee bit chilly and windy here in So. Ill, but at least it isn't raining and no clouds! yay!
