Found this weird growth in Izzy's mouth. Took a picture the best i could. Its in the inside and looks like some kind of fungus growth/tissue. Any thoughts? should we take her to the vet to get it snipped/looked at? Again thanks for this site and all the help! I usually dont post anything because the search function works wonders but this is unusual.

| Not a vet here, but I'd say that is worth making a visit to your vet. |

I had a lab that got something very similar looking around his mouth as well. He got them as he aged. I had my vet look at them and he said they were harmless and he could have them removed or they could stay. Courteous Disclaimer: I can't remember what the vet called them. And it looks very similar to what my lab had. But it could be something different. Just stating an opinion and would probably be smart to get it checked out. |

| haha dylandarling that is exactly what i think it is. Will find out tomorrow but after doing searches on trusty google it does resemble viral papilloma. Seems like its pretty common with puppies. |

| yes...see it mostly in young dogs...saw them on an IG, he had a few small ones..think one was bigger and they removed it because it would get caught and bleed..then they all went away... |

I am 99% sure that is a viral Papilloma. My 9 month old boy developed them after a weekend spent at the dog show. He went from perfectly normal to having 25 or so of them on his lips and on his gums. They didn't bother him, but they made me nervous so I took him to the vet for a check. There is no real treatment for them and they will go away on their own usually. I did start giving him a Vitamin E capsule with his dinner to ramp up his immune system and they were gone in about 4 weeks. His litter sister who also lives here, never developed them and our 3 older dogs never developed them either. But then again, they are a "puppy disease" so I didn't expect the older dogs to get them. Good luck. |

So i took her into our vet and he agreed that it looks like Papilloma. He said that it wasnt viral in which he would leave it and wait for it to fall off because there is only one. He said that he wants to remove it tomorrow. He said testing of it is my call. Said he is 99% sure its not cancer. My question is will this not go away on its own? It doesnt bother izzy at all with eating or what not. 250-300 is the estimate which i about puked. Especially when its tissue and could come right back. Any opinions or should i not second guess him? |

| No he said if it was viral that it would fall off on its own. With it being not viral it will not fall off which is why he wants to remove it.... sorry i was unclear on that post. |

| It looks like this might be on a stalk or have a narrow base. If so, and it doesn't look serious and it wasn't going to be tested, I might consider tying some strong thread or part of a rubber band tight at the base. This will cut off the blood supply and the lesion will fall off in a few days. |

One of my previous dogs had one that my vet removed. Its been a long time but I think she said that the type he had might turn cancerous, so of course I went along. Never came back. |
