| Russ, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm a doberman lover and feel the same way. As much as I'd love to see them win, I know what would happen if they became more popular. I still love watching the show and seeing all the breeds, but take a small breath of relief when the Doberman doesn't win. |

The Deerhound was exceptional, and was most exceptionally handled. If you show at all, or watched the down and back (as well as her individual go-round) every step was in perfect concert with her handler. It was poetry in motion. She is a fine example of the breed standard and has what it takes to be a great show dog. The BIS lineup was very nice, my faves were the Smooth Fox and the Deerhound. What a great lineup and what a gutsy judge to go past the scuttlebutt of the past week that the Black Cocker and/or SFT was going up. He's also doing Crufts in a couple weeks so it will be interesting to see what happens there. Phyllis and the Singltrak Furtribe |

| I am not a judge of dogs breeds at all, so I am not sure it matters much but I didn't like the way the GSP held it's tail while being judged...it had a curve to it....then when everyone at the end congratulates the winners it's tail is up nice... |

Phyllis - I agree on the deerhound. When I saw her, I new at that instant that she had "it." She was stunning. I also believe that although a judge may favor one breed over another, they can look past that and award a win to a deserving dog. Do all judges do that? No, but there are enough that do that make if fun. I thought the BIS judge did an awesome job last night with a really nice bunch of dogs to pick from.
Splat - There is an enormous amount of pressure and energy in a show like Westminster and the dogs pick up on that as well as the nerves of the handler. So my guess is that curved tail was a result of the energy and nerves and as soon as the handler relaxed, so did the dog, and the tail went up. The nerves are the hardest thing to control in competition whether breed, obedience or whatever, and whatever the handler is feeling, then so to is the dog. Couple that with all the emotion in the room and you never know what will happen. Some dogs shut down entirely, some droop their tail, etc. |

True, and win or lose...my dog (be it Emma, Ziggy, Hailey, Dede or Olliver) will still be the same dog I take home with me who sleeps on my bed and sits on me too! Gotta love 'em...silly dogs that they are! Phyllis and the furmob... |

| You know the dogs don't really care about the ribbons and trophies, they are just happy to be doing something with their people. I am always very careful to always let my pups know they did a great job no matter where we end up in the lineup or scoring at a show, be it obedience, conformation, hunt tests or anything else, because at the end of the day they are their with us because of that unconditional love thing. Gotta love the pups! |

This is so true.
We compete in Dock Dogs, and no matter how poor or well they do.......we make sure to tell them GOOD JOB and just appreciate the fun they give us. They are doing something they love....and for us, that is the best hobby there is. So many people are at these events just to WIN and you can tell the dogs could give a crap less. They're all there to have fun. |

Russ, I so agree with you. You can't imagine the number of people that came up to us at the Denver cluster following Carlee's win back in 2005 wanting to know if she was there (since she is from CO and the Denver show is the weekend following Westminster)! And my favorite quote that I have on my website - "The dog you bring home from the show is the same dog you took - he didn't get better because he won, he didn't get worse because he lost." (unknown). Those are the words that I try to live by. |

Gosh, I thought the deerhound was beautiful and her movement was just so fluid when she went around the ring. I really liked her. I thought she stood out from the rest of the crowd out there for BIS. I also liked the little black cocker.
Yes that dog was cool! Never saw one before until last night - so many different dogs. Was interesting.

Tessa was intrigued by the Sharpei of all dogs! Let's not forget that the judge doesn't pick the dog by taste or preference or just looks. The dogs are judged against a standard of the breed. Everything is looked at - some of which we can't see like the teeth, how they are set, and how the coat feels. The dog that comes closest to the blueprint of its breed wins. I loved the judges explanation at the end, why he chose the Deerhound. It may look homely but it came closest to the original blueprint of the breed, created 150 years ago. I actually love that a scruffy looking dog won over all those hypergroomed ones! I could never judge because when I see a nice dog I am simply struck blind by its beauty Loved many - the Redbone Coonhound was gorgeous. |

Yes, the Redbone Coonhound was beautiful, and I would rather see the Deerhound win, than a foo- foo dog... it would be really hard to judge all those dogs... I mean such a variety... I don't even see how the heck they can.. it's nuts. |
