Hey everybody if you didn't already know I am getting a puppy out of Beth's litter (Tundra + Moose litter) we are going to be getting him on February 1st so I am just trying to make sure that I will have thought of everything and be prepare with the essiantials when we arrive home. So if you all have any tips, or want to post a "puppy check list" or something like that, i'd appreciate it. That way I can double check etc. I don't want to miss something! I am working on getting a crate right now...and am just curious what size a gsp general fits in med? Large? I haven't actually seen one in the wire and it's hard to just imagine from measurement s *laughs*. I am checking out my local Freecycle board first before I spend any money, even if someone there has a smaller one that would get me by until I get a bigger one. Thanks ya'll

Diamond,

Glad to hear you're getting a puppy! As far as crates go, I usually suggest getting the full size that you'll need when your GSP is grown. Partition it off when the puppy is small so they have room to turn around and lie down. My girls all have wire crates that measure approx. 36" x 24" x 30". I used a plastic Sealtest milk crate turned upside down to make the crate smaller. They're indestructible. BTW my girls range in size from 50lbs, 23" tall to 62lbs, 24 1/2 " tall and they all fit in this size.

I agree with getting the size that fits the grown dog.
IMO the crate is a safe place, a happy haven ( eventually ) lol
It's like their place & theirs alone
Bean has a collapsable/ travel crate..only because she was grown and out of the chewy/ destructive stage.
I have never seen her actually use it...but I know she does, because the crate cushion is tossed every day, She must go in when we're not home. I straighten the cushion every day, and the next day is all twisted up again.
We use a plastic crate for outside, at our camp sites ( when we travel in the toy hauler )
Bean is 50.2 lbs, and we use the Large size crates.
As far as additions to your puppy list
KEEP A CAMERA close by at all times...you know how we love pictures !!
Congrats on the new puppy...Do you have a name yet ?
