Appreciate any of your thoughts.....
I would feed Windsor breakfast of dry kibble at around 7 a.m. He used to scoff it right up until we started adding canned food to his dry kibble with dinner. The canned food was per the vet's recommendation for his skin and coat and it has really helped. For dinner he also gets some plain yogurt and salmon oil or safflower oil mixed in. He scoffs that right up.
Think he's bored with breakfast because his dinner has more tastiness to it? I was going to take the canned food he gets for dinner and cut that in half so he can have some with breakfast? |

What happens if you put some yogurt and/or the safflower oil in with breakfast? Mine love yogurt. Or putting in some of the canned food for breakfast like you are thinking, that would probably work too. |

| Tried the oil w/his breakfast - he didn't care. I'll try some yogurt with it and see what happens before I give him the canned food. Maybe some yogurt and a carrot! |

| It does sound like he is wanting some extra added into his breakfast...which I think you could split some of it up between breakfast and dinner...they are smart and they when they get the good stuff and when they don't... |

| I'd split the canned food between breakfast and dinner with a little yogurt on both. They sure get smart fast. ;-) |

Do you walk him before breakfast or after? Or not at all on a morning? Maybe he's just not hungry until he's done some exercise and worked up an apetite? Bentley often doesn't eat his breakfast till I get home for lunch, unless I give him a run before work. Then he wolfs it down and looks at me for more |

Try splitting the canned food or the yogurt and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, I'd practice tough love. When we fed kibble the pups got 15 minutes to eat, and if they didn't their bowls got picked up until dinner. Now....keep in mind, this was when we just had labs so a bowl with food untouched is a RARE occurance! LOL Morgan was the picky one and she learned quickly that if she wanted breakfast she would eat when her bowl is down or she'd have to wait. But now they're all on raw so there is no issue with fussy eaters. Also make sure you are not feeding too much......maybe he's just not hungry? |

like some others, Joey usually just has one meal a day for the most part.... dinner at around dinner time after shes had her daily big run. she rarely shows any interest in food till the later afternoon. Don't know why its just her routine. sometimes she is still hungry a couple hours after dinner and we give her a little more. Usually around 3-3.5 cups orijen adult per day with added "supplements". |

So a couple of thoughts: Depending on how old he is you might want to cut him down to twice a day. If he is 6 months or older that is what I would do. Then if he still won't eat his breakfast, I would leave it down for 5 minutes and if he shows no interest I would pick it up and not give it back to him until his next mealtime. He will soon learn that if he wants to eat he better get down to business. Do NOT try to tempt him with other things as you will be teaching him he is in control and not you and it will lead to more issues. The other alternative is feed once a day as pixie suggested. I personally prefer twice a day, but that is my personal preference. I know allot of folks feed once a day with equally good success. |

Thanks everyone! No I don't walk him in the morning - hard enough for me to try and get up and make it to work on time. I am one of those who hits the snooze button a lot before I get out of bed. Windsor is lazy in the morning. He goes to bed with me in the bedroom (in his crate w/ door open) but then ends up on the futon in the den and once my husband gets home from 2nd shift, he wakes up and greets him and hangs out with him. So he is up late. I get up, he's still on the futon, awake but just laying around. He won't go to do his business until husband gets up - but now that I have put a little canned food in his breakfast he is now eating it... then back onto the futon. He doesn't get a morning walk in until my husband gets up and by then I am at work. He plays outside while husband is home and then he goes out for another walk once I get home. Lately too we've been climbing all the snow mountains from the plow He likes to chase snowballs from one mountain to the next |
