Well, we picked Bo up at 8 this a.m. (after nine nights in hte kennel while we were in Mexico). I guess it was a successful stay since they brought him out to us, he jumped on us both, sniffed us, then ran back to go play with his new friends. Sigh! It's so hard watching your kids grow up.

Those of you who know my story know I had a bit of a freak out moment in December when we found out that the kennel we had been using had a poor reputation among other dog owners in the area (as well as our own dog walker). The kennel had come quite highly recommended by another GSP owner in the area, but Bo definitely did NOT enjoy it. It was a big operation (over 85 dogs boarded in one wing) and I think he found the noise a bit overwhelming.

The new kennel houses a max of 24 dogs, and they sent us 2 to 3 pictures every day to let us know how he was doing. Here are a few of our favs.

What's down there, dinner?

I'm a pretty puppy!

Love those ears!

This is how new friends say hello!

A day at the races (Bo is losing this one )

Playing with the big dog.

What is THAT dog doing?

Thanks again to everyone who offered tips on finding a good kennel and assured me that they DO exist out there.

Joce

Joce,

I'm so glad things worked out at the kennel! You'll feel better next time you go on holiday knowing Bo is having fun too!

Gail -- thanks again for your advice. We felt pretty good after getting him home yesterday. He was wiped!

Beth - Bo is 10 months old. We got him from Nuthatch Kennels in Georgetown, ON.

He is such a pretty dog! I would love it if you had the website (if they have one) of the breeder you got him from. I love looking at nice dogs from nice breeders!

That looks like a great kennel. My girls are kenneled now, and I think they are starting to get annoyed with me calling to ask how the girls are doing. I finally got them to agree to let the dogs play with the doggie day care kids and then get boarded at night. Cost an arm and a leg, but a tired dog is a happy dog

Our kennel also has daycare and grooming. They have cots and toys for the dogs and they get a treat at night. If you really want to get fancy for $50 a day they get a large "cabana", private TV tuned to Animal Planet, bed with a mattress, daycare and a doggie ice cream cone at night.

Yeah, we were pretty impressed with this kennel ... for the same price as the big operation ($23 a night) he got two walks a day, lots of play time outside and in (in a family room with 2 couches and a tv), cookies at each nap time, a cot and homemade biscuits before bed (as well as cuddles). The kennels were quite large and well-ventilated (fenced kennels open to the roof - 20 feet up).

Beth, this is our breeder's Web site: http://nuthatch.virtualave.net/

It is great to hear stories like that! I always hate leaving my dogs too but the kennel we use is small and they pay lots of attention to your dog. 2 walks a day, private room, bed, and food dishes. Play time in a fenced in yard etc...
Bo has gotten sooo big since I last saw any pics. Are you friends with the other gsp in the pics?

No, we hadn't met Zoe before (or Fantom the weimie) but that's never stopped Bo from making friends quickly

We have a few other GSPs in the area: a couple older girls (both rescues, both previously abused and a little wary of a young pup), an older boy (we've only met in the yard once) and a younger boy (whose owner recommended the other kennel -- funny we haven't seen them out walking him for a LONG time ...).

We also have a 5 year-old male weimie in the neighbourhood who Bo loves to play with. His normal play mates in the neighbourhood are a three golden retrievers, a boxer, a wire-haired griffon, a couple Bernese Mountain dogs and a black lab. Plus his best friend Bernie, a St. Bernard pup (same age, WAY different size

It's funny you say Bo has gotten bigger. I alternate between thinking he's a big dog (mostly when he's standing on my lap staring me in the face) and thinking he's a little dog (compared to all his BIG playmates

You don't really notice how big they get when you are with them all the time. I was recently visited by two friends who bought 2 of the pups last year. I was all like OMG they are huge. Wierd I know but they looked so much bigger than ours. Stud is as tall as Hunter now and Doddi is the same size as Belle. I still call them the pups though!
