Last Saturday I had a chance to hunt my dogs with someone elses and suddenly realised something very important. Just how good the furry kids were. The other dog had earned his AKC senior hunter and was working on his master hunter title. Now I am not going to say mine were better but they did as well in following commands and backing and retriveing as his did. Even though I still have things I want to work on with the furry kids, I now have a whole new appreciation of how far they have come. So at the end of the day even though my dogs didn't really learn anything new I learned alot. Seems they figured out just how to give me a wonderful christmas present. Now if I could just get Murphy to lift his tail strait up when on point. Ah what the heck at least he has the lift the leg thing down now.

Yay! That's great!

Gunner doesn't lift his leg yet... probably only 2% of the time. He's my girly boy. ;)

UGH! A big turn off for me is a versatile breed with a 12:00 tail. 11:00 at the most.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm want to tell about one reason I am in love with the German system - especially the German judges.
This past fall test a German judge was judging. you know what she said? I almost didn't know how to respond. I had to ask her to explain what she meant.
She told me - go hunting with your dog - show me how you 2 hunt together.

Something I explain to my husband - my husband is a top builder and knows his stuff. If he has 2 capenters build a bird house he will know which house is built better - where to the average eye the houses look equal.
Same goes for observing dogs working. A title means very little. When it comes to contributing to the gene pool, titles are only an indication of what might be there.
It's the actual quality of the work that we need to look at. The innate abilities, which include tractability and cooperation.
Being happy with your dogs is good. I like mine, too.

"Time with my dogs clears my mind, renews my faith, and lets me see the world as it is. My only regret loving dogs as I do, is the misery of their early departure." Robert G. Wehle
