It is with a heavy heart I relay this news. Abbe Lane Kennels, where both of my GSP's come from, was burnt to the ground this weekend. While rumors have spread like crazy, including that it was a heat lamp in a whelping box, it was actually a freak electrical problem that was the cause. Rob and Judy Moerman have been breeding GSP's for 40 years, and produce wonderful, sound, talented hunting machines. Ozzy's dam, who was due to whelp, was lost in the fire. All the other dogs were taken to the emergency vet but several have since been euthanized, including Ozzy's sire and another female that was due to whelp this week. The last news I received was that 4 have survived, but will require a lot of care.
I am absolutely heartbroken for them. Rob and Judy are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Rob holds weekly NAVHDA sessions at his place, and went above and beyond that to help me training Ozzy this year. I can't even wrap my head around this. The kennel was insured, but they are obviously facing astronomical vet bills.
So, I am trying to get some fundraisers going to help them. I just created a Chipin account for them:

I am also entered at a UKC show in Kalamazoo this weekend and am scrambling to get items for a raffle; I may also do a bake sale, sell tug toys, and set out a donation jar.

I've gotten notifications of the donations---THANK YOU!!!! I had only used my paypal account in the past to to purchase items, so I have to complete a bank confirmation which will take 2 days before I can accept payments.

Any idea of no of dogs lost? They had a female by my Snips Ticked Off, Sophie I think, and word of her? I posted a link on my Facebook, you might crosspost on GunDogForum.com also....What address do I send Raffle items to? |

I'm not sure exactly which dogs were lost....but I know there arer 4 left. I will try to find oout more today.

| This is horrible news, I got Buddy from them out of Toby and Zoie, this really, really, saddens me as I look at Buddy, prayers sent. Snips I may be mistaken but Sophie may have been there house/dog that traveled with them wherever they went? |

Things will never be the same here at Abbe Lane but with time we will come back to once again produce some more excellent dogs. We know as time goes on, things will get a little easier for us to bear, but for right now we try to get through each day as they come. I never knew that all of us had enough tears in us to fill another Ocean, we can call it the Ocean of Four Paws.
We humbly thank all of you for your love and support. It helps knowing all of you are out there thinking of us. Please pass our thanks on to as many others as possible.
